Sat Nav problem/quandery - UK only

Most days I drive up and down the M1 to work and back and have noticed that something that I originally thought was a one off, happens daily.

Southbound when I get to J18 the right hand side of the screen showing the motorway junctions freezes, no longer counting down the junctions on my journey. It stays frozen at this state until I touch the screen, which seems to kick it back into life. However the mileage countdown and ETA on the left of the screen remain active.

I've also noticed that coming north, the Sat Nav map does not even recognise or acknowledge certain junctions, namely 17 and 19. I find this odd as J17 is where you can join the M6, surely a significant junction? At J19 you can join the A14.

Does anyone know why eitther of these happens and does it happen to anyone else?

The only reason I can come up with is that around J19-18 there is a massive MOD listening post right on the side of the motorway and wonderd if there is some sort of block?

There's a big radar station down on the south coast which conks entire cars out as they drive past!

I've been that way many times and never noticed it on mine. Perhaps MI6 were not listening then.

On the subject of sat nav - is it possible to stop the TMC trying to autotune? There is only one station (Classic FM) in the UK that broadcasts TMC data, but if you park underground or in a multi-story car park, where reception is crap, on start-up the system searches for another station and finds the one with the strongest signal (which always isn't Classic FM but a local one). Of course, you only spot this when you are hurtling down the M1 towards a line of parked cars and notice the bar through the TMC box.
