Did you know?

On the home page, if you left click on the black section titles Market Place and Region Specific etc, they will collapse to just the title line. Left clicking on them
expands them again.............. amazing the things you learn when you accidentally click in the wrong place on the screen! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

More like disasterous VA.................. while changing my tyres from the Grizzly Claws back to the BFG A/Ts I attempted to fold the rear step on my Def90 and instead of the step folding, a section of the rear cross member came away. This, as far as I know, is NOT a GOOD thing and could prove rather expensive to put right! Confused Confused
The Def is 9 years old so I'm not surprised the dreaded tin worm is starting to make itself visible on the chassis. A quick prod along the length of the cross member with a screw driver revealed a couple of other areas where "latticework" is forming under the paint. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I'm sure this won't help Tim, but my 90 (1988 vintage, 17 years old) is still on the original chassis Embarassed Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Yours probably gets used a lot more than mine which spends about 10 months a year in a dry ,cold shed and the rest of the time up to the top of the wheelarches in mud or water offroad. It only covers about 2000 miles a year and is really a "toy" (albeit a very expensive one!). I have been assured by a friend who knows about these things that it shouldn't be an insurmountable problem as chassis can be bought in bits and pieces. Last time I had the wagon in at the local Landy specialist they were putting a new galavanised chassis on a 6 year old 90 which had a chassis that looked like a swiss cheese and it amazed me that a car so new would need one. The thing is, do I have just a new crossmember or bite the bullet and have a whole new galvanised chassis fitted................ or sell the wagon and replace it with a newer one. Mine is a 1996 TDi 300, one of the best versions and it has only covered 61000 miles, it runs well and the body is in good nick and I had it converted from a County Hard Top to a County Station Wagon not long after buying it.

Edited in later - have just had a posting on the Land Rovers in Action Forum
http://s9.invisionfree.com/Land_Rovers_R_Us/index.php?act=idx that a new rear chassis and cross member is £72+VAT or £115+VAT for the crossmember with outrigger extensions from Paddocks then there is labour at £25 an hour......... That has cheered me up somewhat! I'm off to the local nonfranchised specialist who looks after my 90 tomorrow to have his advice.[/url] 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
