Multi car Insurance

My F type Jag's insurance is due next month & Range Rover's is not due till November so I thought I would get a Multi car quote from Admiral. Bit of an eye opener as they gave me the combined quote then broke it down for each car
Total £659.85 with protected no claims, two drivers & I am old Big Cry
F type £297.92 for 366 days cover
Range Rover £361.93 for 232 days cover
So if you were to work out the Range Rover over 366 days cover it would be £570.97
So get yourself a high performance convertible cos its a lot cheaper to insure Very Happy

Just checked what I paid for this year with separate policies, different companies
Range Rover £422
F type £255

Insurance is a total minefield you need to do your homework

I’ve just done my renewal. Unfortunately A Plan couldn’t get close to my renewal of £170 with Admiral. I rang them up and said I had done the usual suspects and got cheaper for same cover with another years NCD, £162 was her reply. Then she goes on to explain this multicar + Home malarkey. I can add the CEO when hers expires and again home insurance but they’ll all finish on the same date next year.

I renewed last year with Admiral multi cover as my Aviva quotes were getting to be a bit silly. Admiral gave me the best price, then also proceeded to give me a like for like cover on my house for a third of Aviva's price. I'm hoping this year's renewal is as favourable!! 2010 RRS, TDV8

I have been with Admiral for quite a few years and they have been great,
although I have to do the yearly renewal dance to get the best prices..

I normally get about £200 taken off when I phone and they add in some
other discounts they have up their sleeves..

Although my insurance is not due till October I like Lindab have looked at
doing our two cars separately, and it is currently considerably cheaper with
other companies, although we would need to split it to two companies to get
the very best price..

I was always led to believe that Multi-car was designed to get you the best possible
price through a larger discount, but once they have you the ore this slips over the years..

My advise is;
Always shop around & always call for the best deals.. ===========================================

I've been with Aviva for some years now with Multicar (RRS + Saab 93 Aero) and house. Its always seemed pretty reasonable to me until this year when I thought I'd have to go through the motions of looking elsewhere. However I phoned them just to check and they immediately dropped the price. So this years renewal was £306 for the RRS and £200 for the Saab.

My only concern with these multicar multi product policies is that you get (so they say) discounts for putting lots of stuff with them and so moving away means you loose that discount. However you can always do the maths and I certainly look at Admiral next year in the light of this thread.

I think that it is Aviva that are currently advertising that they will charge the same or less at renewal as a new customer would get so that's a breath of fresh air. Robin

How do you get on when moving back to single vehicle policies as a while back I read that with some insurers the NCB was applied to 'the policy' which meant only 1 car could end up with it, in effect probably tying you into the policy with having to start fresh NCB with the other car? At the time I read that, I had my Defender and P38 with NFU and due to their prices rocketing I was much cheaper going with separate policies elsewhere but thankfully the NFU gave separate NCB's. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

That is a very good point about having only one no claims bonus on a multi car policy. If that's so, you are locked in to multicar policies or it can be very expensive to change back to individual policies. I shall leave mine on single policies. Time to shop around for the Jag policy, still got a month before its up

I think you only ever saved approx £50 with multicar admiral.

I had 2 seperate NCB to start with, and think I resisted multicar for a number of years, but finally gave in a long time ago.

P.S Don't try and give admiral a gmail email address!

with admiral you get a separate policy for each car so the NCD and everything else stays separable. You just get a bigger discount the more policies you have. we're changing over to LV multi-policy as we change cars in the family and they're beating Admiral on price easily. They wanted twice the premium for my Jimny so it was cheaper to lose the discount from admiral and switch one policy to LV.

Don't rely on the Admiral home insurance legal advice helpline, i had needto call them over a financial matter and they basically said "you need to get legal advice"! Merc C220 estate Sport AMG

Good Thought!
I just checked with Aviva and they say that, with them, whoever is listed as the main driver for each car will earn separate NCB. So if you are the main driver on more than one vehicle, then you will earn NCB on each. For my wife and I, I am listed as main driver on the RRS and she on the Saab so we are continuing to earn NCB in our own right. Robin

Admiral don't like you having different main drivers. (or maybe it just pushes the price up alot)

With our Admiral we have two cars,
I am main on one and named on the other,
the wife is the same the other way round,
we have when you look at the online paperwork maintained our own NCB
and it has grown every year..

All good for when we move later this year to cheaper insurance..
Unless they come up with an unbelievable renewal price.. Rolling Eyes ===========================================

We have five cars on an Admiral multi-policy with four different main drivers and the only person who is on them all (me) is not the main driver of any of them.
