Suspension issue

I knew I would get one of these one day. So the rear of my car seems to drop at different levels sometimes and stays different and raises at different speeds. The nearside rear seems to drop lower than the offside. I can also here what I believe to be a compressor pump at the rear on the nearside constantly turning on and off. I don't know if its also connected but my rear nearside wheel, hub etc etc seems to be covered with what I though was brake dust but thinking now could this be rusty water being blown out of a possible air leak in the compressor system? as its the same corner as the one that drops the most.

I can get them to be level at the back in normal driving mode but as i say the compressor keeps turning on and off almost like its compensating for air loss

Any thoughts on this please? 2008 RRS 2.7TD in Stornoway grey, black leather and 22 inch alloys

Your right,, the compressor is located by the rear nearside passenger door. I wouldn't have thought the system would be throwing out rusty water as it has its own filter dryer on the end of the compressor but their is still a good chance you have a leak. I would go armed with some soapy water in a spray bottle and work along the pipes as best you can to see if you can spot any leaks. Some of the early compressors suffered from cracked end plates but you will have to remove the cover from the bottom of the compressor to get a look at it. Other than that the valve blocks sometimes stick causing issues, this is located on the rear axle I think,, it can be cleaned and serviced if your handy with spanner or two. 2010 RRS, TDV8

OK thanks, somewhere too start. Thinking about it over night something sticky sounds feasible as I have this morning noticed that over night the corner hasn't dropped and is still at the same height as the other side so would almost like to rule out a leak as would think the one side would drop if there was a leak? 2008 RRS 2.7TD in Stornoway grey, black leather and 22 inch alloys

Sounds logical,, if you had a leak on one corner it would always drop at that side I think. 2010 RRS, TDV8

They self level when parked (drop down).

You can remove a fuse under the bonnet to prevent this, so you can see what corner really has the problem/leak

I have just noticed while out there that the distance between top of tyre and wheelarch is about an inch less on the nearside rear 2008 RRS 2.7TD in Stornoway grey, black leather and 22 inch alloys

Fuse 26 then. I did do a search on here and saw a suspension issue and the guy removed fuse number 3 which was a 5amp so thought it was that one.

After removing number 26 I don't have to start it up and back off again or anything do I? 2008 RRS 2.7TD in Stornoway grey, black leather and 22 inch alloys

You ensure the car is at a decent high height, i.e it has recently been driven.
THen remove the fuse.
And leave over night.

Inspect/measure heights in the morning to see if any different to normal

OK so following morning, although a slight difference to begin with last night and the removal of fuse 26 this morning there is no difference in the heights, both exactly the same so guessing no leaks.

So is my next investigation the valve on the rear axle?

either you removed the wrong fuse

or the strut and valve block are fine.

or the car wasn't high enough to start with

Ok so im trying this again. I have had the engine running and have put the suspension right to the top then right to the bottom then back into the driving height, removed fuse 26 and I also removed fuse 3 which has the same logo as the 26 and ive now left it.

One thing, should I have removed the fuses before switching the ignition off or whilst the engine still running?
