suspension and AFS

hi all. I have an intermittent suspension fault which I haven't had the codes read yet. Just get a yellow light and 'suspension fault' come up in the message centre. would this affect the afs light system? They do the dance then settle looking way down. I think calibration on the suspension may be a little out. Any thoughts???

Well, looks like I foxed people by the lack of answers but yes it massively affects the afs system. Just so people know👍🏻😬 If at first you don't succeed...….. forget it!!!

I would expect that suspension problems would affect the AFS system as the reason for the "dance" is to check that the direction of the headlight beam is not dazzling oncoming traffic. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that the issue is only with the suspension. The AFS system is notoriously finicky and should be suspect in its own right. Having said that if both lights are pointing down I would think it unlikely to be the AFS system as I haven't heard of both going wrong a the same time.

What I'd do is get the engine started with the lights on and allow the suspension to charge up as much as possible. Then switch off the engine, wait say 10 seconds and then start up again. The lights should do their dance and, if the suspension has achieved the correct height, the lights should settle in the correct position unless there's a fault with the AFS.

Obviously getting the codes read should help. Does the suspension look low? I think there is discussion elsewhere on here regarding taking measurements of tyre to wheel arch to check suspension heights. Does the 4X4 display on centre display show any red flashing lights? Robin
