Compulsory Speed limiters coming

Get your orders for new cars in before 2022! Will this kill off big displacement engines and high performance cars? Will the UK government under Chairman Corbyn force us all to drive around at 20mph so we have to use public transport that will be exempted or will he force us all to buy bicycle clips and go to work by bike? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

just imagine the problems JLR will be able to have with mating all those electronic devices that go into it together.......... will you be able to plead that the car exceeded the speed limit because of a software glitch? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

People will just drive at the speed limit, not necessarily a lower, safer, speed appropriate to the conditions/potential hazards. Then again many do drive at - or exceed - the limits even now.

I think drivers go above their ability. We’ve all seen some shocking driving around the bizzars and concentration is not where it should be. I lived in Germany for a while and I’m sure some others have and speed is accepted but also restricted areas are adhered to. I wish it was like that here Neutral .

Now if there was a roadside gadget that limited cars in its scope then that would be feasible but who would pay for it.....

Don't worry.

If it needs a JLR app to make this work....…………….it won't. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Surely this must be a very risky feature. I can recall quite a few times when the safest way out of a situation on the road is to squirt a bit of right foot to get safely out of the way or past or whatever. Also if someone's doing 48 in a 50 zone, and you want to pass them its going to take you an age if your car will only let you do 2mph more.

We'll all end up travelling at the speed of the tractor in front! Robin

The system is proposed to have an override requiring just a good hoof on the throttle pedal to keep "speeding", so the "it'll be dangerous if I can't speed" argument has been dealt with. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

What they are saying is it will use GPS and road signage to work out speed limits, this is not what they actually want, it's a stepping stone.
Problems variable speed limits on certain motorways, roadworks etc.

Who would be responsible for updating the GPS map? Governments? The maps would have to be approved by each country government, they won't be free! How often will uses have to update once a week!

It's a stepping stone.

Mobile phone tracking, allows up to date speed limits, it also allows for governments to track you, give automatic offence fines and points, and more importantly, enable them to charge you for the distance and roads used...

GPS limited range jammers are freely available as are mobile phone Jammers, then fit the appropriate filter on the camera to make red look black, you then have a unlimited car again...

Other side of the story.

How many people will start sticking 20mph stickers over the 30 40 50 60 MPH signs?

It has not been thought through but will enable road usage tax to be implemented

They also want cameras INSIDE the car and dataloggers !!

So no more backseat gymnastics. Embarassed

Just watch the insurance companies refusing numerous claims on the basis the driver was negligent in some obscure way!!!

What happens when people shoot the speed limit signs (happens quite often outside the city limits) and your car GPS doesn't get updated or is broken.
I reckon speed limit sign will be a good business to get into.

Out of date GPS maps will be a thing of the past, they will auto-update over the air like my Mini does now (and for free!) and my ship’s electronic charts do weekly by auto file download even in the middle of the ocean - it is faster near to land using 4G coverage but does it over the sat comm system when more than 30 miles offshore, but those updates are chargeable! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
