Wiring dash cam L494

As anyone managed to wire the dash cam to the fuse box behind the glove box.? I know this is a few posts about wiring to rear fuse box but I’d sooner go straight down to fuse box behind glove box,,I’ve always had mine plugged into cig lighter but now I want to hardwire it. Andy.

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Bali Blue

Hardwired mine via the interior light,, a lot easier than trying to fish cables down to Fuse boxes. I bought a 12V to 5V converter which takes the place of the cigarette lighter plug ( this normally houses the converter) then used the green and white wire in the light which is a switched live. Plenty room for everything behind the light, dashcam switches on when the doors are unlocked and turns off 10 secs after locking. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Are you wanting to wire it so that a parking mode is available? If so, I'm sure you know that you will need a permanent live as well as switched one. I installed my Thinkware myself using the fuse box behind the glove box, but mine is a L320. I used a bolt near by the fuse box for the earth, and a couple of fused piggy-back connectors although I cant remember which fuse positions I used I used. I'm sure someone on here did a how to with pictures.

Just tried to do a search and although topics came up, when I clicked on them they would not connect. Sorry.

Andy
I'm sure you've seen my post on this for my L320 and I guess its different in the 494 but, just in case you've somehow missed it and there are some commonalities, check this out:
http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic45687-15.html
As I recall this was the easy bit of the wiring for my Thinkware. It was the rear camera that gave me some grief
Sorry if I'm just cluttering up the forum with drivel Robin

Doh! Eaters has just beaten me to it, I was going to post the same link. From memory, it was the one I used.
I previously had the Thinkware in my Gen 9.5 Honda Civic, which was much easier to install as it had an "option" connection socket in the fuse box. All I had to do was buy an option connector appropriately wired for the dash cam, plug it in, and find an earth. Admittedly it didn't have a CanBus like a JLR product, but surely it can't be that hard. Or don't JLR want you to fit anything they haven't charged you an arm and a leg for?

What is this switch symbol you are on about Eaters.? I was just going to wire mine so it worked off the ignition as the parking mode seems to flatten the stop start battery,,well is has on my last 2 L494's. Andy.

See in the pic, fuse 47. I think I'm correct in saying that the symbol to the right of the "15A" and below the "3" is an electronics symbol for a switch. Could be wrong but that's what I meant.

That's what made me thing it was worth a try and it does work, only going live when you turn on the ignition Robin

You could try fuse No.28 (Sunroof) on the RRS2 for a permanent live, I think No. 47 is passengers electric seat on the RRS2, as No.47 is sunroof on the Facelift RRS1, also that Icon is for a Auxiliary power socket on the RRS1 and Fuse No 47 on the pre-facelift RRS1 is the boot space Aux Power Socket. Unfortunately the Fuse Layout Numbers on the RRS2 appear to be totally different to both RRS1 variants.

Cheers
Col

Well I’ve tried wiring it your way col & when I’ve turned the ignition off & waited a few minutes till everything goes off the camera still stays on,,also I’m guessing the red is permanent live & yellow is ignition.Ive even tried a few different fuses but still not right. Andy.
