Locking wheel nuts removal

Hi,

Anyone you guys can recommend to remove two locking wheel nuts on a 2014 RRS?
Two are on two tight and they just brake the original locking key sockets. Gone through three sockets already.

Based in Nuneaton near Coventry.

Cheers!

Hi,

Search a well known auction site for “Locking wheel nut remover” there are various types of tool available, but most mullah the nut - so be prepared to buy new ones or a set.

Hi ya,

None of them seem capable of getting the Range Rover ones off as the top part can spin and the lower part can not be gripped.

Are you trying to take it off with a bar and socket, or impact hammer? If not already I’d use the hammer, I have a really good dewalt one and can’t imagine a nut that it couldn’t defeat. Also, the newer style lock nuts have spring steel teeth (the mild steel ones are super weak) Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

We tried both. A brand new socket key from JLR £25, air gunner, nothing but a bouncing socket. Way to tight. Then t bar, socket splits and ring comes out.

Dynomec tools can get them off in around 5 seconds, I had one of my locking nuts go faulty and just spin, tried a few garages who reckoned they could get them off, but failed. Booked in at dynomec, they are the manufacturer of the tool, but will send one of the lads out to remove your locking nut, think it cost me around £15.
May be worth calling them to see if there is a distributor or garage nr you.

Hi,

I have emailed them.
So far all the garages have told me it's looking like I will have to have two wheels cut off and need new replacement wheels 😭

The Dynomec website says it's the tool of choice for the RAC and AA. Maybe it's time to have a puncture? Wink

I’ve got the dynamec one & it is good but won’t remove them if they are too tight. If it’s the ones with the spinning color then you need to chissel the color off the get a socket hammered on or get a set of these

I have these & they are amazing for getting locking nuts & nuts/studs that have been rounded off. Andy.

Here you go. As you can see, the top part sticks out beyond the bottom bit and can spin.

You could try knocking a socket over it to get it off,,you can buy the Dynomec kit then buy the special tool from the same company for getting those locking nuts off but it will be cheaper getting someone to remove them & replace with ordinary nuts. Andy.

I binned them on my Sport and on my Full Fat as soon as I bought them. More hassle than their worth!
I also binned the capped wheels nuts for a set of solid ones off eBay. No more swollen nuts Whistle Visitor from fullfatrr.com

I personally went full butcher on a full fat a few years ago. Ended up cutting a slot in the top and then using a manual impact driver, lump hammer and brute force repeated whacking, once it cracked it came out easy. So satisfying, especially given I’d already tried everything else and cutting the wheel off was my next option! Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY
