JLR’s excuses exposed by the Telegraph

Yesterday's Daily Telegraph carried a prominent front-page article finally exposing how Jaguar Land Rover continues to defacate misleading propaganda to cover up the true reasons for its current financial predicament. Thousands of British workers are being laid off and their jobs moved to Slovakia while, in exchange for this act of anti-British savagery, JLR has received £110 million in EU aid. (That's my money, and yours, btw).

As if that's not enough, the company continues bleating that the reasons for this organisation being immergé dans la merde as we enter 2019 are really:

i) Brexit - Wake up call - It hasn't even happened yet!
ii) Diesel aversion (JLR only had *8 YEARS to plan for this); and
iii) Chinese sales (Seriously?)

*Regulation (EC) No 715/2007 and Commission Regulation (EC) No 692/2008 of 18 July 2008 implementing and amending Regulation (EC) No 715/2007 of the European Parliament and of the Council on type- approval of motor vehicles with respect to emissions from light passenger and commercial vehicles (Euro 5 and Euro 6).

FFS, this again Rolling Eyes

It's not EU money, it's a grant from the Slovakian government. Not our money. Even the newspaper headline gave that away...

The EU rules are there to level the playing field, so that every EU company has the same opportunities in any other EU country...

The Slovakian plant has been planned from as early as 2012, even before Brexit was a thing...

While Brexit is a factor in market uncertainty, the real issues are:

Slowdown in Chinese market
Demonisation of diesel engines
Lack of investment in EV/Hybrid tech
Overpriced vehicles

Thought best to leave reliability, cranks and customer care out of it for now
We're only discussing new car sales Laughing

Drop off in sales in China is clearly a major issue for JLR. Volume down 50% in fourth quarter 2018 to end November.

Just look at the numbers: https://c.jcms-api.com/download/78d77295-4...ement.xlsx Current: 2020 P400e HSE Dynamic

Gone: 2016 SDV6 HSE
2012 SDV6 SE

Sales are down 4% worldwide for LR only

Range Rover and Range Rover Sport sales are up

Velar, Discovery, Disco Sport + Evoque are all down

The the expensive models are doing well, but the cheaper models are struggling. Be that overpricing or reliability, who knows...

An Outlander PHEV starts at £36k OTR

The cheapest PHEV LR currently offer is £72k

Shocked

Why do you think i’m Now driving a Countryman PHEV and not the P400E? When a P400E was specked up to the same spec as the SDv6 HSE D that I had it was over £80000 and while reliability and build quality of my HSE was great it wasn’t worth shelling out £80k for a replacement with a smaller petrol engine and what is new and really untested tech for LR. If the price had come in nearer the £70000 I paid for the HSED in March 2015 I might have considered the P400E but JLRs new prices now make their cars unaffordable to even moderately well off people. Even the I Pace was expensive for what you get and the earliest cars were found not to be able to achieve even 50% of the claimed electric range and had to be recalled for a software upgrade to enhance that...... my name is on a dealers list as interested in a New Defender but if that isn’t available in BEV or PHEV for less than £45000 i’m Not going to be interested - it is a farm utility after all, who is going to pay luxury car prices for a farmers truck? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Well said DM!
Looks like the corporate world is still buying the flagship models (it's not their money after all, it's the shareholders) and the individual buyer, such as Tim, are fed up of having their pants pulled down and are going elsewhere.

The bean counters don't seem to see that though. Same with their parts.

TDV6 oil pumps from the dealer are £227 + VAT. EXACTLY the same part from Citroen costs £110 + VAT...
Most of the parts that go through my workshop are OEM. Same parts, same fitment, same quality, but without any LR tax being added on...

Between me and the wife, very rarely are any of our journeys over 10 miles now. And I'm not spending 70k to save a few quid in diesel, so for now, we'll just keep slumming it in our older cars

Id love to support a home grown company, but they don't make it easy for themselves...

After a history of owning at least 20 JLR (15 Range Rovers) car the reliability, attitude of Dealers and over pricing means I bought a PHEV for the cost of a years depreciation of a RRS - and the PHEV is reliable!

Second hand parts still carry a premium to. I was looking at the rear map lights for my MY12 and realised they were the same as my old Mondeo. £20 for a RRS item or £6 for an identical Ford Mondeo part. Even the indicator side repeaters are out of the BMW parts bin are cheaper from BM. 2012 5.0 SC AB

JLR are an Indian company. Why would they not, in a global highly competitive market, choose the advantage of Slovakia ? This would have happened in or out of the EU. Brexiteers need to get a reality check.

A 2wd entry level DS or Evoque, starting at (as good as) £30k. A far cry from ye olde Freelander, at £13k...

I was left a Qashqai hire car by a customer that was due to be picked up. It wasn't, so I used it for a few weeks until it was collected Laughing

It was actually quite a nice car, well specced, and I actually priced one up myself Embarassed
