JLR laying off 5000

So it’s just been on the news that JLR are laying 5000 workers off blaming it on brexit & poor sales.I would say yes it could be poor sales but that is probably because of reliability in their products & nothing to do with brexit.Then in the next breath their saying they have moved discovery production to Slovakia making 3000 jobs Whistle .Why don’t they just move the production of discovery back to the uk keeping those jobs,,after all JLR is supposed to be a UK company. Andy.

Knew it was on the cards. Wife and I own a property management company and we rent houses to a lot of JLR sub contracting techies and Tata staff. Over the last few months, we’ve had numerous tenants asking to leave their tenancies early as they were either being sent home or contracts terminated.
Really bad for us at the moment, at least a quarter of the properties on our books had JLR associated people in them. Will struggle to re let them.

A far cry from 5 years ago when they couldn’t recruit fast enough. Queues of graduates outside Ashorne Hill, awaiting their interviews. Boom... and bust

Only themselves to blame,,if they treated customers better & dealt with their problems when they happen then they wouldn't be laying off,,unless this is just a excuss to move production & lets blame it on Brexit,,,we haven't even left the eu yet. Andy.

Product quality and customer service bites them. Brexit will be a factor and they are far from the only car manufacturer or significant business to say so. But they are not a British company any longer. Tata are Indian and if they can make vehicles cheaper elsewhere and in their mind increase margin then that is what they will do.

Whilst I agree that the customer service could be better, I doubt very much the company fortunes would be turned around to the extent of saving production based on product reliability and good faith.
China is by far the biggest market, they’ve closed their doors. Trump not helping matters there.
Too slow in developing alternative fuel technology and the scourge of diesel coming without any real warning. VW didnt help matters with this one.
Brexit uncertainty, there’s no getting away from it, companies that rely heavily on smooth movement of products have to prepare for the worst. It will hit revenues, especially in the short term and big firms are getting ready for the drop.

The factory in Slovakia has been being built for at least the last 3 years for D5 and new Defender, Brexit was a major decider in having a factory in the EU after Brexit to be able to sell tariff free cars made in the EU - it was no surprise either. Also on the BBC news website it stated that the Jaguar side is increasing their workforce while Land Rover reduces theirs, where is the sense in that, on the news app it also says most to go will be from the admin and management not production, so is there a different news online to on the TV? I’m in Canada (abracing -19 tonight falling to -23 over the weekend!) so cannot see what’s on TV news 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Yes apparently redundancies will be in admin, management... but it wont stop there. Once bad news hits and the word of trouble spreads, sales will decline further and more cuts will be made.

Ploughing cash into vanity projects such as Classic Works at Ryton now doesn’t seem such a good idea, but it is nice seeing beautiful E-Types going through the village

I expect it wont stop at 5000 jobs, more will follow and JLR will need a radical makeover to turnaround and be the ‘darling’ of the Midlands once again.

If they would listen to their customers who are walking away from them they would have the business turned around - all they need to do is restore our confidence in the vehicles, improve the reliability, improve the extended warranty conditions for cars more than 3 years old and accept that their products are over priced in the UK.
The Chief Officer onboard my ship has been grilling me about the wisdom of cancelling his order for a Skoda Kodiaq to buy a Discovery Sport, brand new fully loaded with options but a ‘special” in his home Urkanian market that comes with a price tag lower by a couple of hundred US$ Than the Kodiaq. I asked if it is a diesel or a petrol - 150bhp diesel so base engine - I had to ask him how far from the nearest dealership he lives - JLR 400km, Skoda 5km - then I asked if he wanted the honest truth............ I recommended that until JLR sorts out the DPF and Oil Dilution issues with the Ingenium Engine and that fact that he doesn’t live around the corner from a JLR dealer he should stick with his Skoda no matter how much he would like the DS, it has too many reliability issues to be 400km from the nearest dealer........... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Not good news to hear but in all honestly JLR are playing catch up to other car manufacturers. JLR need to simply sort out there reliability issues, aftercare and servicing needs a massive improvement and they need to catch up very fast with tech and going electric.
Really really hope they can turn this around and make positive changes to the business to restore faith with there past and current customers.

A good start to increasing sales and stop hemoraging existing customers would be to reduce prices across the entire range by 10 to 15% and give a 5 year warranty as standard.

I have to say this is terribly sad, such a great brand and advertisement for "Britain" but I do think JLR, especially for the LR brand have completely screwed up.

Their products are just over priced, and being brutally honest not competitive in build and quality.
I've been hanging on and hanging on to replace my RRS 2011, I drove the new RRs when it first came out, even though it was all Aluminium and had more power (mines the 255 BHP diesel) it felt sluggish and the mid speed (30-40mph) ride was shocking, like an old ford fiesta, I actually said to the sales person, that the ride for a luxury brand was bad - he of course disagreed, but I recently drove the diesel Hybrid and yup - that was nearly as bad - I think the extra weight helped, but it thumped and banged over poor road surfaces.

I've recently looked at the face lifted RRS, the entertainment and car management interface, looks fab in the show room, but dig in and its miles away from the Volvo XCxx models - no Android or Apple car integration, average sat/nav. everything is softbutton, with zero haptic feedback, so you have to look at what you are doing - this is a car, that you drive - eyes are supposed to be on the road not some fancy UI clearly developed by someone who does not blat down country lanes at 7AM on a dark frosty morning.

So for me, its looking like the Porche Cayenne, similar prices to the HSE Dynamic and Autobiography, incrediable build quality, proper phone integration (has both Apple and Android Car servies), buttons than "click" when you press them and incrediable residuals and I'm told very good customer care (we'll see), and for me really impressive ride quality and when you want to press on, select Sport and blow me, its like a sports car, the turn in is quite surprising for such a beast, and 430BHP to boot and 33-36mpg!

Sad day for me - I've owned LR's for over 20 years, but thats market forces and an illustration of when you lose sight of your client base!

Not good when there is a knock on effect

Though if I can help in anyway as I own a insurance Broking firm that specialises in Landlord Insurance Policy’s and might be able to save something on your portfolios insurance?

I watched the ITV News at Ten last night and it appeared that all commentators were blaming Brexit!

No a mention of any of the quality control problems that JLR vehicles are suffering from or the over inflated prices?
