Snapped crank 2019 sweepstake

First snapped crank of 2019 Sad

This is what happens if somebody forgets to fit an oil filter Shocked

We're running a sweepstake on how many 2 piece cranks we expect to see this year in our workshop. The rule is simple; just reply your guess and we'll let you know the correct number by next Christmas. To keep it fair, I'm not going to give a running tally. So you can enter anytime between now and December.

The prize? A free timing belt change or, if you don't need that, something of equivalent value. Thumbs Up Joe

What do you mean by “Forgot to fit an oil filter?”

So someone serviced a vehicle. Drained the oil and removed the old filter and then topped the oil up without fitting a new filter?

How is this even possible? Shocked

If you look where the arrow is pointing, you can see that the main bearing shell has turned. This cut the oil feed to that journal, which caused the crank to fail and also feeds the #2 big end.

Thanks for those interesting photos, what age was the vehicle? Is it repairable with a new crank or is it beyond economic repair? 2012 5.0 SC AB

Cheeky to ask but how many did you see in 2018 across the JLR range?

For your business alone I'll go for 7.
