Sounds like the oil dilation / service indicator issue. Known recall and will include an oil and filter change as part of the fix MY16, 3.0D HSE Dynamic, Barola Black, TV, Rear Entertainment, Opening Pan Roof, Meridian

Yep, common thing on these, depending on year I’m told this is FREE to, so don’t let them try and charge you for it!!

I wasn’t aware the 4.4 suffered from this oil dilution/crankshaft issue!?

Hi ya,

It should have been reset as it came on before last service then wasn't on when returned.
I have done about 2000 miles since last service.

Cheers

Mines had the same issue but doesn’t have the oil problem. The service indicator drops like a stone for some reason. It’s going back in on the 27th for a second attempt at fixing it.

It was reset in October and within a month had lost 10k off the indicator. This was over the space of less than 1k actually driven.

Last time they reckoned a software update would fix it, but didn’t. Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

2000 miles since June? The vehicle just wants you to drive it, even if only to the dealer! Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi All, so I had a service 5 months ago and have also had a service light come on a couple of weeks ago. Called my local dealer and they said I would need an oil service due to oil dilution and have to pay for it even though I have a 5 year service pack. I disputed the charges and although insisting for a while I'd have to pay she went away and said they would do the oil change as a good will gesture.

A little annoying Range Rover asking me to pay for this knowing full well it is a known problem, and the fact I have a 5 year service pack.

Thought I'd have a look at some forums and came across this thread and quite concerned that this is a design fault and will cause damage to the engine.

I wanted to ask, has anyone on this forum gone down the route of rejecting the vehicle as I feel I bought the car in good faith for £80k and did not expect to be sold a car with a design flaw that can cause serious damage in the future. The car is on a 65 plate. Thanks.
