TDV8 Exhaust upgrade?

I’m considering an exhaust upgrade due my 2008 TDV8 - what are the best options to release the lovely V8 soundtrack? Muffler deletes or a full system? Any recommendations for something off the shelf?

First thing to do on a turbodiesel is to remove the cats - this will allow the turbo to spool up quicker and give you a bit more low-down power.

It won't do much for the sound though, and removing the mufflers might introduce a drone which may be unbearable at cruising speeds. --

In the uk it would also fail the MOT !
I contacted griffin exhaust a few weeks ago who said they’d do a cat back system for around £500 so ordered but they’ve never got back to me . To be fair I haven’t chased them to find out what’s happening 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Can't fail it if they can't see it...

Would it still pass the emissions test? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

On a diesel, yes. A diesel only requires a smoke test for an MOT. A healthy diesel would pass witn or without a cat

In fact, my readings without an EGR and without a cat were lower than with them both fitted...

My first thoughts would be that you have modified your car so would need to inform the insurance company who clearly would not agree with an illegal modification. if you then proceeded you would invalidate your insurance and be liable for a considerable fine if caught. That could easily happen in an accident where you were totally innocent.

I am assuming here that all this is hypothetical and not advice.

Are you insured if you have had the EGRs blanked and not declared it?

Are you insured if you fit 275/45’s in place of the standard 40 profile?

How about fitting non-genuine parts?

LED bulbs? Black badges?

Thankfully, my trade policy covers me for modifications Wink

In most of the examples you use you would be well advised to inform you insurance company or you may not be covered.

The issue with cats, DPF or even EGRs is they are part of the emissions control system and the new rules , as you will well know, are if they are fitted to the car at manufacture they must be working to pass the MOT.

If I fitted 275. 45.20s Iwould definitely inform my insurance company.

Agreed. Any modifications should be declared, regardless of what they are...

The emissions rules have always been like that. However, if they can’t see it, they can’t fail it. My D3 passed 5 MOTs with no cat and no EGR valves...

As DM says,,cannot see it cannot fail it,,how can we as testers see if a egr has been blanked off,we can fail if the cat or dpf has been cut open unless the customer gives us proof it has been cut open for a reason,,easy solution is to put a heat shield covering said item then we cannot see if its been tampered with. Andy.
