Petrol v diesel when only doing 2k miles

Ive sold my supercharged and moving into a BMW. ok ok calm down!

I will only be doing 2k miles a year. My dilemma is that there are more cars available - BMW GT 320 - in diesel then petrol, and within my budget.

Am I ok buying diesel if i take it for a run every week? I will drive it every couple of days and average 5-8 miles per trip around town.

Experience only please

Thanks my friends

DPF issues will be a problem as well as coked EGR valves.

The problem that BMW now have is that they arent making decent engines, chain problems being a major bugbear in both petrol and diesel.

Any other manufacturers you like ?

If it was me, I’d wait for the right petrol car, I really would. And especially in London due to ULEZ.

I do 3k to 4K miles per annum in my diesel in London + blasts to midlands, Cornwall, continent. I only use premium diesel with their advertised cleaning agents etc. I have not had issues, but it’s a concern. If knew then what I know now I would have stumped up for the 5.0 SC. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

Why do you need a petrol or a diesel............ there is a third option these days that has neither engine, costs zero VED, zero Conjestion charge and is really really cheap to fuel up if you have a home charger.............. and buying one used can be really really cheap as they depreciate worse than a petrol engined SUV because people don’t want even recent used BEV’s..........
The exception to the rule is used Tesla’s, they hold their value quite well, but unfortunately, like JLR they languish right at the bottom of the reliability tables..... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
