According to DMS, mine has now been taken to the same power and torque level as the later model is taken to ie - 810nm torque despite their website quoting different amounts for the two model years...

As far as I know, the two engines are physically identical - it is only the factory ECU settings that differ hence why the above is possible.

I've had DMS remap a number of my previous cars over many years including BMWs, Audis and Mercs as well as a L322 TDV8 and my last car, a 2014 L494 SDV6. In every case the performance of the car, particularly midrange, has noticeably improved and so has fuel economy. So far the DMS remap has not been picked up during main dealer servicing or at least no technician has ever mentioned it to me. Well worth doing on the SDV6 IMHO which is no ball of fire. One thing to note though. The remap does nothing to improve the throttle response delay from stationary which I found particularly annoying on the SDV6 but I think thats a gearbox issue

Mike - good to hear your feedback. I read your previous posts and that was one of the reasons I went with a remap. Yes, a shame it doesn’t seem to dramatically improve the sluggishness when starting off or at roundabouts but using the paddle shift helps that.

I’ve noticed a few reports on here of a flat spot or sluggishness, and thought the 306 cured this. My own MY 16 HSE 306 launches itself off and always has, as it was an ex LR demo I wonder it it was “ tweeked “ a bit or are there good and bad, sorry, not so good! Very rarely use sport or paddles other than down shifting while descending our hills, which we do have, proper ones! Thumbs Up

In 2016 there was a software update for the gearbox that fixed this issue. My 2015.5MY SDv6 HSE D went in for its first service in April 2016 and came out 48 hours later a transformed car with no delay at all - its performance was so transformed that the paddle shift and S mode were all but redundant on the road as throttle response was improved, still needed the paddles when off road though for holding lower gears manually. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hi Tim,
I don't suppose you have any record of what software update was done to the gearbox? Mine is a similar vintage to what yours was, and I would like to cure its sluggishness from start if possible.
thanks,

Greg I no longer have the car and have destroyed all the service records etc I had kept, si i’m Sorry I cannot help you with the details. The upgrade was done as part of a standard service so the dealership didn’t call the car in especially. They did need to have it overnight which seems to be the way that updates get done now - possibly so the technical guys have some time to check that the upgrade has worked. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks Tim - interesting - I wonder whether they update the gearbox ECU (if there is one?) or whether they update the main engine ECU - ie. the one that I had remapped?

I would be keen to get this update done but I don't want them wiping the new ECU map that DMS put on last weekend!

I would be surprised if a 2014MY car hadn’t had the upgrade if the service in 2016 was done by a main dealer, i could see it not getting done if the car was serviced outside the dealership network though. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I would not assume that a LR dealer has applied all software updates. Best to specifically check. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
