L494 Oil Change

As a precaution against oil dilution, as I’m midway between services, I plan to change 5 litres of oil, I have a Sealey vacuum suction pump, which I expect should fit over the draw off pipe.
Searched for any info to confirm for sure the extraction pipe, but couldn’t even find a YouTube video of an L494 oil change
Does anybody have a picture of the engine bay, identifying the correct tube?
I assume I need do nothing more than basically suck out 5 litres, and replace it with the same volume of fresh oil.

I have the SVD8 and the extraction pipe is in front of the oil filler cap. I am still unsure how to remove the cap though as it turns and raises 1/2 inch but does not come free.

Just an anti-clockwise turn and it pulls off, the photo shows the fitting.
Guess i’ll suck this pipe and see!

Coedlan - I did the same thing at the weekend - only 4K after last service as a precaution, as I believe when I bought it, the car had done lots of cold starts and very short journeys/test drives - it was on the garage's forecourt for 5 months as they had overpriced it!

I will now change oil twice a year/every 4/5k miles - I have a friend who owns a LR garage and he does the job for £100 - that's a cheap insurance policy in my mind.

I think it takes 6 litres from memory FYI?

Yes that's the one, I have done it a couple of times without any issues. Make sure that you don't accidentally over fill. If you do when you check the oil level on the dash readout then suck a bit out!

Thanks Guys I have now been able to remove, just needed more force. Tracking down suction equipment now and I am ready to do intermediate changes. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

RESULT !
Should give peace of mind, cos as I approach 3 yrs old and end of warranty, I love the car and don’t want to ditch it over what appears to be a problem that’s not totally confined to LR.

Go to a boat equipment shop to get oil extraction kit as its usual on an inboard boat to extract the oil from the dip stick tube as you can't drain from the sump plug in the bottom of the bilge.

I haven’t tried this on the L494 yet, but it holds 6.5 litres and is marked on the side to measure the volume. I expect the rubber end will slip over the pipe
I’ve used it on other vehicles, down the dipstick hole, so it’s a bit black inside, just need to get some fully synthetic 5w40 oil, preferably recommended by LR - is that Castrol?, either Edge, or Magnatec? and away we go, should be very simple quick and clean.

Thats the same as I use.
One of the joiners should fit over the car tube.

There is an Australian V6 diesel owner with over 260,000 on the clock and no issues. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

I think the oil they use is Castrol Edge 5w-30. MY16 RRS 3.0 SDV6 HSE Dynamic

Castrol Edge Professional. Which is probably the same stuff with a different name, but a bit harder to get hold of and more expensive. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

They are identical spec wise, AFAIK.

The only difference is the professional version has a UV dye added, and is supposed to only be sold to dealers.

Bought the Edge professional on-line, came from Lancaster VW, cost £25 for 5 litres, I bought 25 litres, free delivery byFedex
Thought it was going to be easy, but it was so simple I kept thinking I was missing something.
Took me literally 15 minutes, completely clean process, very happy with how simple it was. I didn’t change the filter, no need, the dealer will be doing that in a few months.
Only minor niggle was that my Sealey suction device had to be lifted up for the hose to reach the extraction tube.
