2010 RRS Start delay..

I've had my RRS for around 7 months now and it's never failed to start, however recently on pressing the start button, when cold there is a delay of a few seconds before it fires up. When warm it starts immediately. At first there was a slight delay, but has gradually become worse.

I've had a search but haven't found any info.......Anyone else had this problem or any advice?

I also have 2010 and only had the car since Feb this year. Now the weather is getting colder here as well, I have had the same thing happening but I am just presuming it is the glow plugs taking longer to warm up. Thumbs Up Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

This is what it should do. It’s the glow plugs doing their job. When you press the start button the delay is the initial warm up but after the engine cranks they continue for some time, even when the engine is running. If the glow plugs start acting up you will see white smoke on cranking and rough running for a while after start - if it starts.

The secret to easy starting in the winter is keep the battery well charged, I use a ctek charger at least once a week even if I am using the car. Some may say that’s overkill but I have never had any starting issues.

If you are pleased with it so far wait until it snows!!

I'm sure it is the glow plugs as mine does the same, is there something in the manual about it?
In the older cars (and my old D3) you turn the key to position 1, allow the glow plug light to go off, then start the car. With the stop/start button, it does it for you.

One more bit of info for interest is the the controlling factor in this is not the outside air temperature it’s the coolant temperature. Obviously in the morning after a night parked up they are probably quite close, but once the engine coolant is warm the delay reduces and eventually disappears.

And from what I understand, the glow plugs come on when the ECU commands it and that could even be when warm and has been running for hours. All to do with emissions. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Irrespective if they come on or not, that is kind of irrilavant to the delay
as they will be on a lot
