Range Rover Sport 2.7 tdv6 white smoke on start

Helo all,

i have trouble with my Range rover sport 2.7 tdv6. i post video if anyone of u have idea what is wrong with my car.

Injectors was all checked and they are ok. i dont have compresion on 1st cylinder. I have alot of white smoke when i start engine after engine got worm no smoke anymore. But i hear some chuckling in engine.

one mechanic guy say this is the problem with camshafts (wrong timing) but i dont think so.

i will be really happy if someone can tell me or if someone have same problem,...

I am glad you took my advice and came across to this forum with your issue.

The Americans mainly have V8 petrols and no diesels so do not know much about them.

If people here have a look at your video I am sure the experts will be able to help.

I’m no expert but if you don’t have compression on no 1 cylinder, the white smoke is probably the vaporised diesal that hasn’t been used during the no 1 compression cycle being pushed out of the cylinder and mixing with the hot exhaust gas from the other 5 cylinders. 2012 5.0 SC AB

I’d be more concerned with the issue of no compression on no.1 cylinder, that’s youre issue. 2012 5.0 SC AB

The sound and the lack of engine compression is clearly related. What was going on when the noise started? How do you know you have low compression.

It is time to initially look at the valve gear on that side of the engine and go from there.

If you think of what cylinder 1 is doing, the piston is trying to compress about 450cc of air into a small gap. If you don’t have compression it’s because there is a gap that air is escaping through. The exhaust valve will open and let out the uncompressed air and fuel mixture on the exhaust stroke. Depending on where the air goes on the compression cycle will have an effect on noise and damage to the engine. You could end up with fuel in the oil, over pressure of the cooling system, water in the oil etc. Etc. Hopefully it’s a cylinder head gasket and not a warped/cracked head. I’m convinced if you fix the misfire, the noise and white smoke will be gone. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Anyone know if the 2.7 has variable cams? I wonder if the mechanic suspects the variable cams seized. 2012 5.0 SC AB
