2014 RRS questions...

Well...my wife (head of the finance department) has given approval to look at getting a 2014 Sport.

If looking at a car with or near 100k on the clock what do I need to look out for? does the cam belt need doing like the D3?

Any major faults to be aware of?

Whats the road tax like on the 2014 L494?

Does the car have adaptive cruise control or bog standard cruise control?

Thanks for all the help. Thumbs Up

It would help if you could tell us which engine (3.0ltr SDv6, 4.4SDv8 or 5.0ltr V8 Supercharged) and which model - SE/HSE/ HSE Dynamic or Autobiography the car is. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Its a lot of miles, I would want some form of warranty if you can but on 100k it might be tough. I would say miles would be motorway easier miles but hard to say isn't it.

Getting on for 100,000 miles over nearly 5 years isn’t really that high an annual mileage - there are members here who are doing > 30,000 miles a year. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I would be looking at the HSE Dynamic. I would think the Autobiography would be slightly out of my budget this time round.

VED would be £280 a year.

Adaptive cruise is an option on HSE Dynamic - it's standard on Autobiography. MY16 RRS 3.0 SDV6 HSE Dynamic

Wouldn’t be overly concerned regarding the mileage...I am one of those who do big miles... I had a 64plate RRS that within 2years had done 60,000 Miles.. that car would have been a far better buy than a town car...
If it’s any indication and you have the full service history look through how many sets of tyres the cars had... I replaced my first set at 55k! And there was still plenty of meat left on them... the point I am making is that car spent its life cruising easily on the motorways in top gear....
The suspension, gearbox, drivetrain etc had an easy life! The engine didn’t go through continuous stop start cycling and it was an absolute stunning car!
My car was serviced (on mileage) in keeping with the JLR regime and I guarantee my high miler was in far greater condition than the majority that the dealership service normally!

on that mileage, best to avoid the SDV6 altogether.

If you don't do much mileage, go for the Supercharged V8, else get the SDV8 Thumbs Up --

Cheers for that Farmer Chalk, I plan to do between 10k and 15k a year with work and any holidays in Europe. I have a really good independent Land Rover mechanic local in Tavistock.

I travel the length and breath of the country including frequent journeys from Kent to Scotland and Kent down to the West Country. I will often drive 400-500 miles in a day...
I can honestly say it is an outstanding vehicle and one that I am never reluctant to get into even after such long journeys..

Yes as with all vehicles they have a few niggles but this are easily tolerated..
The 3.0 SDV6 is a great all rounder which given the size and weight of it returns admirable miles per gallon..

I now run the 5.0S which is just a sublime vehicle and proves effortless...

Get one you won’t be disappointed.... Very Happy

^ so true

Wifey and I went away to the Cederberg for the weekend, 300km away. The drive there and back was effortless with cruise control on 130kmh, and overtaking anything was way too easy - sometimes hitting 150kmh if I wasn't watching the speedo Laughing

When we hit the twisty mountain passes, I put it in Dynamic mode, cracked opened the windows and just grinned at the sound of that V8. Mr. Green --
