Bulletin no. LTB00906V6. Action: change transfer box oil and update transfer box control module.

Still seems a weird fix for suspension but it worked... Also, in case it makes a difference, my car is a basic HSE but with the low-ratio box.

Thanks Humbug - I’d love to hear more details as this sounds VERY strange!

My noise happens wherever the wheels are pointing so maybe it’s a different noise.

The dealer I bought from is half way through fitting a new active anti roll bar and valve block - 13.9 hrs work apparently?!

I get the car back on Thursday - I’ll sell it if the peoblem’s still there...

For those still interested - it’s fixed!

New active ARB (photo attached of old one) and valve block. 13.9 hours’ work and about £2k of parts, paid for by the dealer who sold it to me.

Hope none of you need to go through it but wow the ride is so much better now and the dynamic mode is much more noticeable and effective.

UPDATE:

Since this was fixed, I have now twice noticed the front suspension knocking noise come back, relatively suddenly and very obviously.

Both times I have called my friendly local LR independent garage and both times this has been due to the nut attaching the drop links to the end of the active/dynamic ARB working its way loose.

Luckily an easy/cheap and immediate fix but worrying that he has torqued them to the specified amount and they are still coming loose, especially as most of my driving is on the road with occasional day off road...

Anyone else come across this?!

No - it was a faulty active anti roll bar with about an inch of play in it.

The loose nut in the drop-link gave the same symptoms.

Just to give a final update on this - as the suspension noise never fully went away, I finally took the plunge to replace the Active anti roll bar valve block as I found a 2020 model one cheaply on eBay. It’s completely cured the suspension knock/rattle/play and I’d recommend it to anyone who has an L494 Dynamic with the suspension noise I described in my earlier posts above. The later valve block is a different design to the early ones (not sure which year they changed) and they seem to have cured the issue. Hope this helps someone!

Great news you got it fixed Thumbs Up I also had this issue on my L405.

Just to add some further detail for members who come across this in the future...

The issue is covered in LTB00557. It is an inherent issue on the 2013/14 models of the L494 and L405, where the Dynamic Response valve block does not dampen out the resonance generated when controlling the hydraulic fluid feeding the hydraulic ARBs. A revised design of the valve block was brought out in late 2014. The part incorporates twin dampers to dampen out the resonance.

The part number for the revised design Dynamic Response valve block is LR072419.

Here's an image which shows the old style valve block versus the revised design:

The funny thing is, the LTB states, "on strong customer complaint". Therefore, if you only complain a little bit, they won't replace the valve block Whistle Thank you Land Rover Rolling Eyes Kev

so if this is a known fault can this be carried by a dealer even though it relates to an out of warranty car?

It's not a recall so it won't be a complimentary repair. It'll either be covered by warranty or chargeable. Kev

B Stards! if something was a poor design in the first place then it should really be FOC in my opinion, if it was a wear and tear thing then maybe a small customer contribution would be in order and I wouldnt have an issue with that but from what everyone seems to be saying its was wrong from the start! but then again this isnt and ordinary 4x4 its an LR 4x4 reassuringly expensive! Big Cry

Ive only got just over 40k to, might just be my mind thinking it though after reading these posts and the roads round here are full of repairs and holes Ive not have a car that hasnt noticed them if im honest!
The merc hated them so much it decided to break 2 of its own feet! (and no the local council we not helpful!)

Cheers for the problem solving though If a jobs worth doing, get a someone who knows what they are doing to do it!

Completely agree with you.

The one that always gets me is when the crank goes on the 3.0 and LR extended warranty doesn't cover the cost because it's a 'known design issue'. Absolutely terrible. Kev
