Torque converter refurb recommendations needed

Hello all,

I have a TDV8 and I have it on good authority that my torque converter needs replacing or refurbing. I am in Leicester, I'm looking for positive experiences with garages preferably near to me if there is any please.

I don't want to send it to any garage that tell me I need a new gearbox if I don't. I'd like a specialist in this area if possible.

Many Thanks.

I got the replacement torque converter from Bristol transmission highly recommended on the D3 site and had no problems don’t forget to get the filter changed while the box is out.
Sorry I don’t know any garages in your area. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

I had my TDV8 TC done at Bristol Transmissions at 119k miles. Ended up being a refurbed box as the output shaft splines were worn. You have to take everything out to get the output spline out and they said they wouldn't do it unless I agreed to a refurb. That, or they'd just change the TC and I could take my chances with the splines. I got the box refurbed as it seemed sensible to me. They also did the input spline for the transfer box as that was also worn. Included a new transfer box drive chain in the process. Box still going well when I sold it at 174k. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

If you would like to avoid the long slog to Bristol then I can recommend Stephens Engineering near Hertford : https://www.stephensengineering.co.uk

I had my TDV8 torque converter changed here and it was all fine. Bristol transmissions know Stephens and recognised them as a competent outfit. They are a bit old skool but nothing wrong with that. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thanks for the replies.

Been speaking to a company in Huddersfield called Automatic Transmissions Ltd who seem to know their stuff. Anyone used them?
