Rear brake pipe replacement.

I'm looking to replace both my rear brake pipes.

Anyone out there tackled this job before ? Bow down

Do the pipes run from the back caliper to the servo at front right of engine bay as one single unbroken pipe, or is there some sort of junction/valve at the front somewhere.

Also, I put a magnet onto the pipes at the servo under the bonnet that suggests they are metal not brass.

Any idea what spec of brake pipe I should be ordering ? Thumbs Up RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

L/R themselves used to do repair sections for the rear pipes so you did not have to replace whole front to rear pipes, not sure if they still do them. It would involve cutting and flaring the old pipes and fitting a joiner unions at the rear of the car I imagine. Pipes were around £20.00 each if I remember right. Would probably depend on how bad and where about's yours are rusted I guess.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply Col.

That was one of my main concerns, could I basically cut out the rusty/bad part of the brake pipe and flare/join with new pipe.
and from your answer this is a possible route I could take. Thumbs Up RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

If it's of any use just for reference the L/R part numbers for the repair pipes were LR056967 & LR056968. Google them probably come up. Thumbs Up

OK I just Googled one of the part numbers you sent and the dimensions stated length 94cm.

From what I can see from underneath my car the length of pipe I would be replacing may well be double that I think, does that make sense with you.

I appreciate the reply but not sure we are talking about the same part of the brake pipe, I am thinking about replacing the length of pipe that runs parallel with the side steps on both sides, what you think ? Thumbs Up RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

Sorry my mistake, when you mentioned rear brake pipes I thought you meant the ones that go across the rear axle to the rear caliper flex pipes, not rear to front of vehicle.

Hi Col,

no problem. I think it maybe the pipes highlighted in the diagram that I am looking for. I will have to get under the car and take of heat shields and all that other stuff under there to try and follow the pipes. Hopefully they do come to a natural split somewhere. Thumbs Up

Looking at the drawing there would appear to be a joiner at the front, not sure quite where it would be probably up by the bulkhead some where. Those two pipes highlighted are about £25.00 each from L/R if you wanted genuine ones as opposed to making them up yourself, mind you if you ordered from L/R not sure what shape they would be by the time they arrived. Laughing

Cheers

Yes indeed, definitely would not be the same shape after delivery Very Happy

I am looking at just making up my own anyways, does anyone know the gauge of pipe I should be buying. I see from online the most popular size is:

3/16 pipe with 10mm x 1mm male/female nuts

...does that sound about right ? Thumbs Up RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

Just been under the car and cannot see a brake pipe connector on the original brake pipe. it looks as if it runs from the rear brake to the servo without a break in it. Big Cry

I've also been informed it's a nightmare to try and flare the existing pipe if I did try to cut it and join on a new length of pipe.

So it looks a though it will be a full new pipe.

Unless anyone else has another way to make this job a wee bit easier ? Thumbs Up RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey

Thanks for all your input Thumbs Up

It cost me £20 for pipe and connectors and a couple of days to fit. Is defo a pain in the butt of a job to complete, but now done and passed it's MOT... happy days. RRS 2.7 HSE Stornoway Grey
