Phil, precisely.

Really annoyed that LR and SVO in particular have been a bit coy about being transparent about this.

I guess no one knows really until our cousins across the Atlantic start posting their discontent on it's quieter than expected tones? MY18 SCV8 Satin flux silver

Hi Canary,

I haven't come across any reference regarding changes to the exhaust on the 5.0L Supercharged Autobiography. Just the changes to the engine as follows:

- Both 5.0L V8 S/C Petrol engines are moving from Gen 1.5 to Gen 2 for 18MY
- This will deliver improved performance, with the target power output moving from 510HP to 525HP on Autobiography Dynamic models and from 550HP to 575HP on SVR.
- CO2 (NEDC Combined) reduced to 294g/km*

That is true.....unless you know a hack to keep the exhaust valves permanently open. Which mine are, and it’s sounds glorious!!!

Sally, what have you done to yours then? how are yours permanently open? frustrated it doesn't stay in Dynamic mode \ the last mode used and it always defaults back to comfort

They will revert to comfort mode if the vehicle is parked more than 4/6 hours iirc. Mine will always come out of dynamic when parked overnight. MY15 was the same too.

With regards to the exhaust it was Hubby that managed to find a way of getting them 100% fully open BUT it is full time now regardless of what state the exhaust button is in / driving mode. Which from our stand point is fine as we feel you have a SVR for the noise. Pops and bangs like the early SVR's too when in Dynamic & even more so in Dynamic Sport running paddle shift ! Doesn't pop and bang in comfort, so there is still some control over noise.

However we appreciate this solution we have found may not be to everyones taste.

Bottom line is you can have the car choose how much the active exhaust valves open (which on MY18 is clearly a let down) OR we can give you full time & full opening of the valves which is completely non invasive along with no fault codes / Check Engine Light Thumbs Up

We've not looked back since doing this as this was the one important missing piece from my new SVR. All smiles now Very Happy 2012 Evoque

Hi Sally, could your Hubby share with us how he managed to do this please - or PM me?

This the only thing that I have found wanting on my MY18 too.

Cheers

I take it that only the SVR has these valves and not the 'normal' v8? --

I'm with you. I think it's more special when it's not open all the time. The deep frequencies and rumble even at it's quietist is awesome and then you push it and hear the crackles and pops when you take the foot off the gas... I find the whole thing very satisfying as is. As they say sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. 2018 Range Rover Sport SVR – Bosphorus Grey

I know on my RS5 the valves closed when air was pumped down a line and by just clamping them the valves stayed open.

on the RS5 it was in the boot I expect the SVR isn't much different.
