thoughts on purchase my10-13 a/b 18k-27k creaking budget

hi all, been on here for a few years as almost purchased a tdv8 off a forum member a couple of years ago, work circumstances changed so I never took the plunge but i'm now back actively looking for one but stuck trying to find the right one at the right value for money... i'm fully aware of the pros/cons/issues with the different engines etc as done plenty of reading

so a my10 tdv8 with the a/b kit is around the £18k mark and spend a couple more for potentially a very clean one,
but once your at £20k then anywhere between £22-24 you can start picking up a 2012 a/b with about 60k on them - which to me seems a bit more value for money as it's a couple of years newer and would benefit from the my12 changes etc.
but then if your looking at these around the £24k mark then another couple of grand more starts getting a lower mileage 2013 and before you know it you've gone from looking at 18k to £27k
definitely needs to be a diesel as well as not keen on towing a portable petrol station behind me

part of me is thinking it's looking like a my12 a/b for around £23-£25k seems to be the best value for money..??

England 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Fuji White

If it’s the 2012 on model you’re looking at it has to be a 3.0 diesal or 5.0 Petrol. 3.0 has widely reported issues but I don’t think they are actually too common. It’s just reported more on the forums as happy owners don’t complain. The 5.0 is more expensive to run but is more fun with less reported reliability issues. At the end of the day, it’s down to an individual to chose what is right for them. 2012 5.0 SC AB

If you're not going to buy the 5.0SC, buy the TDV8. Much better than the 3.0 diesel in all respects. The money saved over the 2012 can then go in your "keeping it on the road" pot. Win, win. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

that's what i'm thinking about just sticking with the tdv8 but then it's not much more for a my12 and a number of upgrades..

mainly the 8spd box would be the main reason

The TDV8 with 6 speed 'box is an excellent set up. I find the 8 speed 'box with the SDV6 to be nowhere near as good. It's always in the wrong gear - always trying to stay in high gears. I've seen it in 4th at less than 10 mph rolling in to a roundabout. Trust me, that leads to frustration and is not a little dangerous as you ask for power to make the gap and nothing happens. The vehicle rolls forwards with no real go and then, whole seconds later it finally changes down and lunges forward. All very unsatisfactory. Never had that problem with the TDV8 + 6 speed.

The TDV8 goes better too and it does it with a nice V8 growl. The TDV8 also has a nice meaty idle - people used to ask me if it was a petrol! The SDV6 is smooth but without any real auditory pleasure.

I'm told the 8 speed can be improved with a TSB software update and the engine is remappable to 300bhp+ but the TDV8 is good "out of the box" (and can be mapped to 300bhp+ too, of course). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

CO2 isn't the issue these days - PM10 and NOx is. The diesel is rubbish in those terms (that's why you have DPF etc). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
