You may get the offer of a speed awareness course which means sitting on the naughty boys chair for an afternoon. The good news is that you get no points on your driving licence, and as far as I'm aware, no need to tell your insurance company. I can't remember how much they cost (too busy laughing at SWMBO who got one), but no more than the FPN (£100 , plus 3 points) and no bump to your insurance for 5yrs.
Whatever happens, don't go to court or you will have to sell a kidney to pay the fine+costs+victims surcharge (speeding is not a victimless crime, apparently).

37MPH in a 30 is on the cusp for the Speed Awareness Course so if you're offered it I would take it without hesitation.

As the chap above has mentioned it will take up a morning or afternoon and usually available local to you. The cost will be more than the fine part of the SP30 but overall better than having points on your License.

One thing that has changed though; someone I know was actually asked about points AND any speed courses attended in last x years so dependent on which insurer you're with or go to next be wary that it may come up although can't see it having too much of an impact on the premium if it's the only digression.

I got caught doing 50 in a 40 late at night by average speed cameras. First I knew about it was I got letter informing me and I had to sign that I was the driver and that I may be offered a speed awareness course.
Sure enough 2 weeks later I got the invitation and it cost me £92.
As others have said if you take the risk you pay the price and a fine/course is better than an accident or injury. 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue
2005 4.2L Supercharged Java Black - gone but was my first love.

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

Unfortunately, in Scotland you don't get a speed awareness course, just a fine & points. Just another of Queen Nicola's ideas to make sure we are different from the rest of the UK. Just like the increased income tax & booze tax etc

^^^^^ But you do get free prescription, so it's not all bad. Wink
The speed awareness course is quite educational if i'm honest, a bit of an eye opener when certain scenarios are put in front of you that become so obvious when your sat in a classroom. 37 in a 30, you should get offered a speed awareness course. Personally i think everyone should take the course, especially learner drivers. Thumbs Up

Unless you insure with Admiral (and possibly others?), who do want to know. Sad

It was only a matter of time before the insurance companies caught on i suppose. If I am unlucky enough to get caught and offered a course, I will avoid Admiral.

I don't see any justification for insurance companies to increase your premium just because you have been on a speed awareness course. In most cases, it makes those attending a better driver, so less chance of having an accident. It's almost like a refresher of the highway code. I would challenge any insurance company that tried to increase my premium because of a speed awareness course. We all know they will try anything to screw us over for whatever excuse they can.

I`ve never had a premium increase from having an SP30...3 points. Most insurances let you have the 1 endorsement but you still have to tell them like with anything! Steve.
