IMHO, the warning tells you when they are knackered. Get the wheels off and have a look at the pad thickness and condition of the discs. 1.8mm is an MOT fail. Frankly I would change at about 3mm.

In my experience the brake warning system is useless. My rear driver side pads were metal on metal...no light. As far as getting them replaced, any garage can do that for you....except Kwik obviously. Steve. |

To do yourself, rears a little more difficult. If you don’t fancy trying yourself take to an Indy but never Kwikshit

The warning sensor wires are only fitted to one side of one caliper per axle. This of course means that if you have a sticking caliper or pad, which isn't sensor equipped, it may well wear to the disc before the warning light comes on. If everything is working well, and you don't do huge mileages between services, it should be OK. |

I took it to A L Services who have diagnosed a stuck caliper (should be covered under warranty) and needs rear discs and pads. The stuck caliper is on the side without the sensor, hence no warning. Should be sorted out on Friday if the warranty company get their finger out and authorise the work.

All done and dusted. £499 total, about 1/2 of which is covered by the warranty, including all the labour. Genuine LR caliper AP discs and pads.
