Parking brake shreik

Parked up outside the pub and there was a loud shreik and the dash came up with parking brake malfunction. Obviously I went for a pint and ignored it, when I got back it seems to work perfectly again.

Any idea what causes this? Should I strip the epb?

And probably best not to use it until you do or it may damage the module. Put a bit of tape over the switch, you will be surprised at how you automatically go to apply it.

I completely agree with the previous comments,,, get the rear brakes serviced ASAP or it will cost you dearly. Lots of threads on this subject on here if you search. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Rear shoes and fitting kit are a couple of months old and it's not been through mud since they went on, so I'm fairly sure everything is OK inside. My question was more around which part makes the shreik noise and if it's a sign I need to tighten up the shoes, or if its the module that needs stripping and cleaning.

My indie told me dirt / brake dust is the arch enemy on these systems and advised that they are stripped and cleaned / lubricated on a regular basis, they also have to be adjusted correctly then they will be fine. The module is quite well sealed and I don't think there is any chance of anything getting inside, probably has more chance of being worn, then again, badly adjusted / dirty shoes will will only help cause issues with the module and cables. 2010 RRS, TDV8
