So I run a 2007 TDV8 with Brembo brakes on the front running 275/40/20 on some lovely alloys. And in London, apart from the huge pot holes, this was fine.

I have now moved to live in the Highlands of Scotland and I am looking to join the 4x4 Rescue team over the winter.

So ideally I would like to fit a set of steel wheels and winter tyres to the car.

Should I,
1. Try to find a set that will fit over the Brembos’s? Can this even be done?
2. Go for a set of 19 alloys with winter tyres, again will then fit over the Brembos?
3. Swap my beast for a Defender and embrace the change?

Running 20’s in areas up here in snow and ice is likely to damage the alloys, hence why steel would be preferable. I had to replace an alloy in London as it cracked on a pothole.

I’d go for option 4. Keep the sport as is and buy a Defender to add to the stable! 2012 5.0 SC AB

1st, I don’t know if there is a suitable steel wheel for the RRS and if there is it will be incredibly heavy!

Compomotive sells a very limited production 18” or 19” alloy purpose designed for the Bowler Nemisis which was an off road racer based on L320, they are available but will be getting a bit scarce - I think one member here Has been running a set on his car for off-road use. I ran my TDv8 on the only Land Rover 19” design that would fit over the Brembos BUT having left them at home when I headed south and back in December and when the A74 got closed to all vehicles except 4X4’s I got through on the unploughed and up to 10” deep fresh snow motorway no problem on the standard 20’s with the Grass Gravel and Snow setting selected on the TR system. I’m selling a set of new and unused 21” SVR wheels and All Season tyres in the for sale section and they will fit OK on an L320 RRS.
I’m not sure but there may also be a Zu light alloy designed for Defenders that might fit too.

LR do a 19inch that fits over the TDV8 Brembos. You can fit 255/55/19 tyres and this gives a reasonable range of AT tyres.

I had this style on my 08MY TDV8 with the 4-pot Brembo calipers and the wheels fit without modification.

If you need winter rating, General Grabber AT3 and the new Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus give you decent all terrain use and winter rating. The Goodyear Duratrac is an excellent AT but isn't winter rated in 255/55/19 and is now speed rating limited.

I have the Grabber AT3 on my SDV6 having had them on the TDV8 too. An excellent tyre that is good on road and did very well in the winter snow and off road at Les Comes last September. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I have them on my Brembo'd TDV6 with AT tyres (255/55/19), which coped very well with snows in Wales over the winter. You should be able to pick up a set of rims at a reasonable price.

Buckster on here has the 18" Comps - but they are very rare, though you can still buy new.

You might want to think about underbody protection if you're going to be heading some inaccessible places.
