United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 Autobiography Santorini Black
Warranty

Hi,
Has anyone used Auto-protect for a RRS autobiography 2010 MY for warranty ? been shopping around but I am shocked how many companies use the sliding scale for parts contributions "basically meaning I could potentially be paying upto 80% towards parts ( no thanks ) !!!!

cheers

I don't know about Auto-protect and I didn't know any different when I bought my RRS in March 2016, but the non-LR garage I bought it from supplied me with a 15 month warranty from The Autogroup. It has proved to be a very beneficial arrangement from my perspective. Since I've had the RRS, I have had numerous issues (some of which like headlights are not covered by the warranty) and to date they have paid out some £2300 to me. The cost of the first 15 months cover for their "Ultimate" cover (the top level they do) according to my sales invoice was £470. At renewal they asked if I would like to extend it and I agreed a deal with them for 2 further years at a cost of £500. So total cost to me is £970 and I am covered until June 2019 on a car that will then be 11 years old! I call that a result. The list of the major work includes: N/S lower suspension arm, N/R rear wheel bearing, O/S front wheel bearing, front differential replacement, O/S front lower suspension arm, steering column lower u/j, alternator replacement - all covered by the warranty.

Of course its not the same level of cover as a LR warranty but I am fairly happy. And I am not aware of any sliding scale for parts contribution. The claims process is quite straightforward.

The only area where I have some concern is that they insist on using aftermarket parts if available and only LR parts as a last resort. But as it is the LR part that has prematurely broken (or I wouldn't be making a claim) this really doesn't worry me too much. In fact the reconditioned front diff, according to the indie I use, is better than the LR product as the parts used to recondition it are of better quality.

All in all I am happy with The Autogroup and I'm bloody glad I have it and could extend it. These cars should not break down with the regularity that they do but as they do I wouldn't be without a warranty. Robin

Thank you I will obtain a quote from Autogroup. It sounds like you have had a good level of service from them, which is all we can ask from a warranty.

In terms of crankshafts, the 3.0 engine is known to suffer from cranks snapping. I however have the TDV8 3.6 engine which in turn has its own known issues with turbos. the 3.6 engine does suffer from crank issues but this is normally bearing failures as opposed the snapping cranks.

thank you for the replies so far

Haha - Sorry Andy Smile

Looking at the terms and conditions page for The Autogroup, I didn't see anything about part contributions...but it would appear that clause 27 and/or 37 may preclude cover for the V6 crankshaft.

But as Bulldog says, our TDV8s don't have the same issues. They have issues - lots of them (as you know). Just not the same ones Whistle Rolling with laughter

Just an update on The Autogroup as I have received a letter from the Claims Administrator for this warranty insurance.

Looks like they may be in a bit of bother but the good news is that there is no change to the cover as the Claims Administrator says they will be picking up the tab.

Turbo has sized Censored Censored Censored
Garage called auto group and cut a long story short they will not pay for claim as the engineer told garage the seals fail in these turbos causing them to burn oil and then overheat !
The engineer must have X-ray vision as he has not seen the turbo or asked for a report from a specialist. I have not told them that I have worked at JLR for over 15 years in power train testing positions inc engine test, so I think I know a bit. I have asked for the engineers words to be put into an email and sent to me asap.
I am then going to send turbos to borgwarner for a full strip down and report. Once I have this the ombudsman is going to be contacted as I think this is incompetence and a true sign of the troubles they find themselves in.

Has anyone had a warranty payout against turbos ?

To say I'm annoyed is an understatement. My RRS ownership days are now numbered. My 2011my is having all of the exact same faults as my previous 07my.

Door latches
Lower arms
Rear ARC leaking
Wheel bearings
aRB bushes
Drop links
Rear upper boot issue
Alternator
Air con condensor
Turbos

Just for the record car has full service history.

Rant over I'm off to look at auto trader Big Cry

just thought I would give an update.

After I sent an email to warranty company containing the turbocharger reports and explaining how the turbos work inc explaining that the intake system on a tdv8 will have traces of oil as these engines are fitted with EGR they have agreed to pay for the repair of the one failed turbo Very Happy

I havnt had vehicle back yet as ive been away, a bit happier than before, but still think i will look to change it.

Slightly encouraging news but I can still understand your frustration. Every time I go out in mine, I get this feeling of elation to be driving such a fantastic car, but at the same time I am constantly on edge listening for the next bump, whine or graunch signalling another trip to the indie with cheque book at the ready!

Heart rate up because of the wonderful performance and up because I know its going to all come crashing down around me.

Just got back from a trip to Wales followed by a trip to Scotland. The car was faultless - there! That's torn it!!! Laughing Robin
