Hello people, looking for some advice.......

Hello RRS owners,

I've had the RRS on my bucket list of cars for many years now, just something about them.

Now I've had the good news that in 3 months I'll be a dad, so now is the time to make the excuse to buy such car - I currently own a V8 M3 although such a great car I'm not fully sold on it being a family car, so it has to go.

I was looking around spending 20-25k, this seems to leave me on the see-saw of MY10 to MY12 RRS, Is the >12 a much better all rounder (Gearbox seems like it is from reading up?)

Any decent buyers guides to link to?

I have looked on here, and I must say some of the repairs / faults are a bit scary are they really THAT bad? I'm an aircraft engineer by trade so usually have a crack at most things as I quite enjoy it but these seem non friendly to the hobby mechanic?

Although most googling will find the unhappy owners who's had the Friday build, I'm sure there are 1,000's that are happy.

Johnno Thumbs Up

I'd probably say <10k to be realistic, my commute to work is 30 mile round trip.

The only reason I ask is it might be worth considering a 5.0 S/C as would appear the 5.0L petrol engine is far less troublesome than the 3.0L diesel The earlier 5.0L did have some timing chain guide and supercharger issues but later 12My on cars that had supposedly been addressed. The S/C RRS1 never had the original 8 speed box either as it was not man enough to take the power output.
On a 30mile round trip you would probably use at least a couple of gallons of petrol though.

Cheers
Col

I’m in the same boat as you, always wanted a RR, got 2 kids, RAF aircraft engineer, willing to tackle most jobs and only do a 34 mile round trip to work (Although I lift share so half’s my fuel bill) so I went for the 5.0 Supercharged. I don’t regret it at all and I just had it serviced at a Land Rover Independent in Lincoln and it cost £240! He said the 3.6TDV8 would come in just shy of £400 so the Petrol worked out cheaper.

With your budget I would look at the 5.0 Supercharged 12MY> so that’s late 61 plate onwards. It’s not an M3 (I e had one of them too) but it is as much fun when you have the space to play! 2012 5.0 SC AB
