Do you use the EPB at the traffic lights?

Curious as to whether anyone does this?

Is it advisable/not? --

I use the auto stop/start all the time so you need to engage the EPB and N in the gearbox to avoid burning out the eyes of the driver behind you with the bright taillights and high brake light, especially on dark wet nights. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Mine doesn't have auto start/stop, so I just leave it in D --

I tend to use it if the brakes are hot
or I'm on a steep hill

I use it if stopped for a while, ie. temporary road works traffic lights, you know the ones that take forever! 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

Thanks for the answers.

I take it then that there won't be any ill effects by using it at the lights? --

My feeling is that it's better than putting strain on the gearbox leaving it in Drive and also (but probably totally rubbish) that if it's used, there's less chance of it seizing up! 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue

There is no "strain" on the gearbox at tickover with the EPB applied. The only connection between engine and gearbox under those circumstances is via the fluid in the torque convertor. So no wear can take place.

In fact, you are more likely to put wear on the main clutch packs by moving it to "n" and back all the time. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Thanks Wilf, I wasn’t aware of the fact it can cause more wear moving back and forth through N and D.
That is what I have been doing but will stop that practice now! 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue

Never ever used it, although when I was on a Range Rover experience day on the main road the instructor said to use it in an emergency (assuming you think about it) He told me to drive at a steady 50mph (no following traffic) then flick it on without taking my foot of the accelerator. I nearly went through the windscreen, it was that powerful Thumbs Up

I use the EPB if there is a long wait or if it’s dark and I want to avoid dazzling the driver behind with my brake lights. I try to release the brake manually because I’ve been told that the auto release wears the rear brake pads prematurely - don’t know how true this is . . . .

Wilf, have you found your XKR yet?
