I respect that you are giving your honest impression. But this test drive was to short to understand the full operation modes of the car.

Its a shame that the LR people can’t explain the re-charge modes, the car have...
You can easily re-fill the battery parallel to the drive with the petrol engine. Its only working in sport mode and nowhere explained.

I will give a full report about all tricks once my car arrives... Wink

Renaco I was in the car for 1 hour as that journey had quite a bit of traffic. I drove in electric only mode, auto mode and Dynamic mode when the road cleared up. I respect your decision to buy a Hybrid if it works for you but IMHO I don’t see the benefit over a Diesel engine apart from tax implications.

Thanks. I see and understand your point. You are right, there is no benefit from drivetrain side.

From my side (in my garage is still a V8 RRC first series for feeling a real engine), the Hybrid is perfect daily driver for what I need.
I use it for Munich City to my office around 30%, then around 50% for long tours at the highways and the rest of 20% I use it for my forest tours/visits. There it feels great to go the offways fully electric.

But again, I agree there is no other benefit or real fuel savings. I am a bit crazy maybe, but I like the Hybrid, especially in a LR product... Wink

But Rene you are driving the best Hybrid version of the the car now - SDv6 Hybrid so you still have the best engine option and less complex tech. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thats a good Point of view... Wink
But from my side its just a dated V6 diesel, it gets every week more noisy and the vibrations are not premium. Also the battery is too small for enjoying more the electric ride.

Not just about the brand at all. While I would love to spend my entire life in the countryside and out of cities, sadly my family and I lead a compromised life where We typically spend 4 days a week in London and 3 in the countryside. Our miles are thus a mix of city during the week, where the new congestion charge for diesel engined cars is about to be £20 a day.....so if we move our current diesel hybrid, that’s £80 a week in C-charges alone. We then do anywhere between 100 and 300 miles over a long weekend....and head properly off-road maybe 20-30 times a year. So the car gets a very mixed workout in our hands. I wonder how many people really regularly do all the things this car can actually do?

While I am annoyed my current diesel hybrid falls foul of the new c-charge.....because in an ideal world I would keep it, I don’t see a better alternative option than the new PHEV. I start by saving £80 a week.....and while it will be more expensive on longer runs.....it still seems like a pretty good compromise.

And I talk from experience as for various reasons, not all of my choosing, I have owned the gen 2 RRS since it was first launched and done 3,000 miles in an SDV6, 7,500 miles in the 5l petrol V8 and most recently 50,000 in the diesel hybrid. If I didn’t give a toss about cash or the environment, or just spent time out of cities, I would buy the petrol V8.....but I do care about both and this the new petrol hybrid seems a pretty neat solution if I want to continue owning an RRS.

I may be a bit ignorant on the 400e but as an off road vehicle not having a spare tyre is a very big issue. Also going bush with a petrol engine is not something I'd prefer to do.In the city I ride my motor bike, in London I think a push bike would be the fastest way around , perhaps two vehicles is the best solution for purpose? M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

As a resident of London I opted for the P400 RRS on the basis that we do a mix of short, city journeys - for which electric only sounds ideal - and long 300 / 400 mile trips for which a full electric isn't really very good. Whilst we've recently been Audi drivers my wife wasn't keen on the Q7 so it's the RRS for us.

However, it's not the review above which makes me wonder if I've made the right choice but rather the continued "HOLD" that's been put on delivery. Mine was supposed to be delivered last week, was put on hold on Thursday and is now on hold until sometime in July which is conveniently about 3 days after we are scheduled to set off towards Italy for summer hols.

Not a great re-introduction to the world of all things LR ....

My biggest fear would be that this vehicle relies on technology, not a strong point for Range Rover? M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.
