So you'd just take the possibly incoming MY18 car and forget about the MY19?

I'm just stuck on the fact that my car is probably one or two weeks away from being an MY19.

No disrespect as you're asking because you're unsure but why would you pick an MY19 when it potentially costs £3.5K more with reduced functionality?

That only becomes a question if you value the registration date over the considerable cost saving but if that's your worry get the earlier car and couple it with a personal plate for a few hundred pounds?

I was previously working under the assumption that they would have to match spec for spec so I'd get all the new driver assistance bits and bobs that come with MY19.

But as RRSman and johnathan have said thats an entirely new pack to the drive pack I ordered so they wouldn't have come for free anyway and I'm not paying more for them + all the other sneaky price rises and the slower gearbox they've thrown in.

So I guess it becomes a lot more clearcut now, take the MY18 and slap a personal plate on it.

As far as we're aware those are the only changes, there's nothing else we've missed? Is it true the 4.4 SDV8 is going to disappear next year? With the new gearbox, what's the point of the SDV8 over the SDV6 anymore? I guess in gear up the range might be stronger still? And brakes are larger - then again car is heavier.

FYI, a 68 plate 18MY vehicle is not possible.

I have a friend who ordered a MY18 car in April for July delivery, but had agreed with the dealer for delivery on 01 September. As it happens he is looking to cancel his order but if he decided to keep it he will definitely be pushing for 1st September delivery as agreed by the dealer. MY16 (65) RRS, HSE, White, 21" 507s, Pan/Black Roof, 7 Seats, Ebony/Cirrus, Surround Cams, Fully Color Coded

But if its built up until early/mid July its going to be an MY18 just sat there doing nothing?

Or am I missing something?

Would a plate jump make that much difference to the depreciation of the car?

Also as someone else said, I'm not sure they can sell it as a 68 plate . . . due to the emission stuff.

I guess I've got to take the MY18 and give up on the MY19, no point in waiting 3/4months and paying 3/4k more for a car with two new features basically and nothing else.

Just annoying that the car will be one of the last off the MY18 production line, but oh well.

My understanding it’s the MY rather than the plate jump. I don’t think there will be any significant change on the residuals especially when you take into account the price rise. Even if there was you would be waiting much longer for a slower (in principal) with no extra features as standard and the privalage to pay for steering assist which may be as good as a Tesla / Volvo system, could be useless, or likely somewhere in between making it hard to justify a £3k plus spend.

If I was given the choice would of stuck with the MY18...

Also has yours been build slotted? If so you probably don’t have a choice as you would likely have to cancel your order and place another (at the new price) with a build time of minimum 14 weeks you might have the same issue again with MY19.5!!

I need to really thrash out what my exact build date is and go from there . . .

Was supposed to be this month but there was some issues somewhere which might have pushed that back which then made me ask the question why I was getting an MY18 car when they were producing MY19 vehicles.

But as you lot have pointed out I think in this instance its probably better I stick with the MY18.

IIRC JLR will have to register the car before 2359BST on 31 August otherwise you have to have a 2019MY and then they have to crush the 2018MY car........... due to the new emissions rules and hence why there are so many pre-reg cars on all manufacturers forecourts at the moment - after 0001 on 1 September unless the new car is compliant it will not be legal to sell it to you....... and they have to,crush it or sell it to another country where they also drive on the left....... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced

There are now but you have to go into the dealerships as they don’t seem to put them in the Approved Used website, but go have a walk around any manufacturers used car lot and there are loads of “ex-management” cars available - on LR dealer’s forecourts there are loads of “ex management” and low miles used cars, especially Velars......... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

From what I have heard from 2 dealers is that they don't have enough MY18 RRS to go around - if the price rises are anything to go by for the MY19 (an AB has gone up by £4k and Dynamic by £3400) then they will be selling them even quicker now and that too without much discount... Whistle
