Roof rail finishers - necessary?

Looking at some roof rails from LR parts (£199) - they say that you need a set of genuine finishers in order to install them. Googled them and think these are what they mean -

Anyone tried adapting there own existing finishers? It just looks like three holes cut out with a dremel/ jigsaw to me??

Has anyone seen them/ tired this? Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

When I was doing my rails I had the same question. Because I could not find a good answer at the time I went with the full OEM kit. I think some of the Ebay kits include instructions about cutting the existing cover. Photo below shows the OEM finisher upturned ready to be applied to the roof, and also close up of part number on one of the finishers, but you probably already have this info. If you cut out your existing cover with the necessary holes you will not be able to re-use it if you ever want to remove the rails in future - but this may not be a concern. Also it is difficult to remove the existing cover without damaging the little adhesive pads - you may want to get some replacement pads before you start.
