Where taking the dog across France later this year do we need a dog guard or anything. I think there supposed to be restrained in this country but like most laws in the U.K. nobody bothers but what about europe 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

We went last year via the tunnel and took the two dogs. Going across you just go and we stopped a couple of times at service stations which were all very clean and plenty of space to give them a walk and a wee. Coming back just filter off into the dog passport bit 10 mins max and then join the que to check in. Overall a pain free experience.

I just bought a cheap guard from Halfords. If’s not customer made for a Range Rover but it does the job and is easy to install / remove.

Apparently the rule in France is that the dog has to be restrained.

We’ve taken our dog to France every year since 2006 and have never had any problems with gendarmes but we do try to restrain her.

If she is on the back seat, she wears a harness which plugs into a seat belt socket. If she was in the load area of our L320 then we always used a ‘half height’ (i.e. the top half) dog guard. Now that we have an L494, there is less space for her to get through (and she is less energetic) so we sometimes don’t use a dog guard but technically we probably should.

We have always used the tunnel because you stay in the car with the dog. On most ferries, the dog stays in the car but you don’t so there’s more scope for anxiety or other issues!
