Temperature gauge fault

I have a fault with my temperature gauge. When I turn the ignition on the gauge instantly goes up to 1/3 when cold after I been driving it hits the top white line the obd is saying the temp is around 92 the radiator is not loosing water and 92 after a drive is probably ok . When I turn the ignition off the needle drops to 1/3 freezes for a second then goes the rest of the way down . Is this likely to be a problem with the gauge or sensor

Firstly I would swap out temp sensor
As this can cause the gauge to spike up and down No friends no favours
