Aston Martin Vantage advice?

I know some here are or have been owners and looking for you to convince me or talk me out of it Confused

Been searching the net for a weekend car to replace the Lexus and stumbled across 2 Aston Martin Vantage in my area with 12 months Aston Martin Approved used warranty for about the same price I paid for the RC albeit they're 06/07 Shocked

Owning something like this would be a bit special either until the warranty runs out or maybe another year if I extend the warranty as I assume like a RRS you wouldn't want one out of warranty Whistle

Thoughts Question Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

Having owned both Vantage (V8 coupe) and DB9 (V12 Volante) models.... I can advise that you really won't be short of theatre (or drama!) while owning one. I never tired of looking back at either of them in the car park, the driving experience or the admiring looks! Bow down

I have loved both of mine and as with any car (We RRS owners know this all to well) there are dogs and diamonds. If it's a dream, I'd never say avoid them, but just be prepared for the costs involved...and these costs can be astronomical. Despite being a 10/11 year old car, you are still servicing a £100k-£150k and when the clutch needs changing (as it's known to go quickly) you will be shelling out big time.

My heart will always say DO IT! Twisted Evil ....and have a nice pot of change for things going wrong!

AND....Make sure its a manual, the "sportshift" in the older cars was awful and didn't mate with the engine particularly well. And as you rightly say, I would never let mine outside of manufacturers warranty. Now

Cheers Bow down

I wouldn't be doing many miles so hopefully minimal wear and tear Confused

Just spotted an 06 with less than 16k miles within my budget Mr. Green

Any chance these will start going up in price in the near future - i.e. investment vehicles maybe Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I can't imagine that the V8's will be increasing much in value.... the production numbers were too high and build quality is general pretty decent, so there are lots of them around.

16k miles is surprisingly low.... but with a decent 12 month AM warranty, you should be pretty safe. Just watch out for any exclusions.

Have you actually sat in any of that age yet?
Only reason I ask is that the interior is a long way away from what you expect, made up of the old PAG parts bin, so you have volvo satnav, ford starter kit, ford infotainment / switchgear. Now

I've owned a 4.3 and a 4.7 Vantage, both bought new. They were great cars but the 4.7 was significantly better. Its increased power and torque made a real difference to the driving experience. My 4.7 was a sport shift and I thought it very adequate and better than the manual. They are not cheap cars to run, expect 18/19 mpg and pretty high bills for servicing, prices start at something like £800.00. Tyres wear quickly, don't expect more than 8k from a set. Yes they are quirky but I never regretted owning them. Try before you buy is essential, cars like this are not like jumping into a Lexus.

RRS sold and replaced with a Skoda Kodiaq after appalling RR Dealer experience and LR inability to supply new cars in any sort of reasonable time frame..

This is a great book to have a read of if your thinking of getting one. Lots of useful information.

http://www.astonmartinreview.co.uk/

As other have said servicing can be expensive at the MD, I take mine to a good local Indie who charges significantly less.

It's also worth checking if the car still has the factory supplied Tracker, if so I think they came with a couple of Fobs/tags so make sure they're there, also check to see if the puncture repair sealant that's in the boot is still in date if not I think its about £50 for a new one.
They can also suffer from corrosion around the door handles and the bottom of the doors, looks like little blisters in the paint, if you do a search on the internet you'll probably find lots of references to it, which will give you a good idea on what to look for. Also the door mirror arms seem susceptible to corroding as well.
If you do get one first thing to do is remove fuse 22, this disables the exhaust bypass valve leaving it open all the time, makes the car sound a bit better, then you save for a pair of sports cats because once fitted the car sounds glorious.

Have a chat on here and or the Disco forum with "astonbuilder" I think you will find he one of the guys in charge of production at the Aston Plant, he should have access to all know issues by checking their warranty database etc etc

So you sold the Lexus because you’re unwell and couldn’t use it , but now you’re buying an Aston.....or was it just that the Lexus was Censored ?! Very Happy 2019 Svr and 2019 R35 GTR

No the Lexus wasn't Censored but swmbo hated it so I fell out of love with it and with my pain decided to call it a day Sad

I'm feeling bit better now and determined to get sorted with whatever the problem is and enjoy life asap as I firmly believe in "One Life Live It" Bow down Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

The Lexus was the car my head chose (being hybrid) but my heart wanted an Aston Martin plus swmbo who isn't in to cars loves them and the last 6 months has reminded me you only live once and I'm not getting any younger - as those that have met well know Wink

Besides cars like the AM will be a distant memory soon with all the emissions knee jerk reactions so I'd like to tell my grandkids I had one someday Mr. Green Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
