RRS SPORT Buying Advice

Hi Everyone

I am considering buying a RRS Autobiograpghy Sport from the company that I work for. It is one of the Directors cars that is now for sale. It is in beautiful condition and the interior is unmarked. However, there is an issue. The service history is missing! Land Rover has a record of it being serviced in 2015 at 25k miles, but that is all the service history so far. The car is 2012 and has 44,000 miles. It has just has a MOT. The only advisory was rear tyres which have now been done.

I am going to email Land Rover to see if I can find which dealer supplied the car. I will then contact them to see if they have any history.

I know it will need a cambelt (as 7 years old) and a big service. If I was to buy it, I would get it inspected beforehand by a local Land Rover specialist.

My question to you in the know is, would you avoid it due to the lack of service history? The price my company want for it is considerably lower than equivalent models on Auto Trader.

Also is the crankshaft issue a question of not if but when it will happen? I understand that if it occurs, it’s a new engine?

I really would appreciate any advise and suggestions.

Thank you

Regards

Mark

to help, people will want to know what engine it has.

I'm not sure I would bother with an inspection as you know the car and low miles etc. Put the money on a warranty

Good point - it’s a 3.0 diesel SDV6.

I’m not sure a warranty would cover it due to lack of service history.

How about ringing a few dealers and asking them what they'd give you as a trade-in price? Then offering your company a tiny bit more than the £4k the dealers will probably offer Rolling with laughter

Also put the details into the "We Steal Any Car " website.

Buy the car at a knock-downs price and as already suggested, invest in a decent warranty that covers the engine self-desructing. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thank you the replies so far.

I have already had a look at We Buy Any Car and specified no services history. The price they offered was £3k more than my company want for it. I think I’m going to speak to the local Indy and see what they think.

have you spoken to the director who used the car? He/she may be able to indicate if it has been serviced and by who/regularity. I can't believe that the company wouldn't protect their "investment" and not service it, and you may find some way of obtaining copy receipts from the garage which serviced it.

The PA is trying to sort it. I have been told that it is likely that the service at 25k maybe the only service it has had! Which is ridiculous. The car had a previous keeper, so I am going to contact them to see if they have any information.

I assume you have checked on line for the service history
http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/vehicle/lookupForm

I would not go near it without a full service history, If the crank goes pop, then I think JLR would not be interested. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.
