As said previously the costs vary depending on level of service and paint quality.

Mine have cost me around £800. The SVR last year cost 850, but in that I had the JLR Report and photographs.

It is currently there having a wash and brush up and partial protection until I can get it in for full detailing and GTech crystal serum light coating and paint correction.

I will send some photos once I get it back tomorrow.

Regarding wether or not it is worth it. I would say yes in a heart beat after seeing the final production and comparing it with the handover pictures.

Cheers

Thanks for the heads up RRSman. So far I have had 3 done and had no problems. The costs have been fairly acceptable to date.

Who do you use now ? I once used a guy over in Maidenhead and he charged me an absolute fortune.

OK. As I said I also had at least 3 done in the past and sent another 5-6 friends with some very nice cars to him including RRS's. He looks at the car and quotes but once he has the car in he starts to send close ups of things he has found and then up's his price. He talks a lot about "Paint contamination" and it's pretty much become a joke in my friends circles as he loves to use these words lol.

It's nothing but greed as if a price is agreed when he has already inspected a car then to up the price when the car is in is like extortion as we have no choice but to cough up.

I use a guy who comes home to do all my valeting now. He has a place in Hemel Hempstead where he does the ceramic treatments. I can PM you his details if needed.

Be careful of Darius Smile

I'm really interested in your reports on these ceramic coatings and their ability to withstand surface scratching. My question is
whether it will work with the marks I get on the sides of my car from travelling along narrow country lanes. and brushing against vegetation particularly when passing another car? I'm a reasonably competent detailer looking after my two classics but if these coatings can save me getting out the orbital polisher to remove the marks then it sounds a great idea.

I can say the answer to the above is yes and no. The protection isn’t absolute but definitely helps.

I did the very thing you describe (bramble lined country track) within a couple of weeks of having my Svr treated last year and got some healthy marks down the side of the car.

However with some good washing and cleaning routines the marks seem to have faded/ disappeared.

For proper protection you d want PPF.

My - my18 Svr is booked in for the detail/ ceramic treatment this week, it’s a fantastic service / product and makes cars so much easier to keep clean - particularly helpful when you have black range rovers which stay clean for all of 5 mins. 2019 Svr and 2019 R35 GTR

As you know, one can only correct the paint by polishing so many times as the clear coat is of finite thickness. However, with the silicon “ceramic” stuff you can’t paint correct at all. Once it’s on it’s on, and can’t be easily corrected if it gets marked. DA polishing can actually make it worse as it can remove bits of the glass which then marks the rest. It is harder than a glaze (I use carnauba) though so may depend on how often you want to polish and glaze.

Would I use it on my cars? No. But I don’t drive often down narrow country lanes.

It won't quite protect you from this but it does prevent swirl marks to some extent if the correct washing methods are used (2 bucket et al). I know a couple of people who paid £800 to have their car's treated with Gtechniq only to use their local Eastern European car wash and their cars are covered with swirls again - absolutely pointless. Ceramic treatment is only worthwhile if you will maintain your car yourself or have someone who knows what they are doing look after it.

Doesn't look like it will suit me then, I use the eastern europeans every week or so and then machine polish once a year. Keeps it looking OK for a day to day car. The Triumph and Jaguar on the other hand have hours spent on them.
