Steering/wheeel/diff noise?

My 2010 RRS is making a strange noise and it’s been getting progressively worse for the last few weeks. When driving straight and especially with any right turn pressure in the steering wheel there is a sort of rhythmic throbbing noise which can also be felt faintly through the wheel. The frequency of the ‘throb’ is related to road speed, not engine speed. Interestingly, as soon as you apply any left pressure to the wheel the noise completely disappears. My independent garage suspects the diff, but then they didn’t actually hear the noise (long story). So, any thoughts on what the noise is?

I’m a complete amateur at all this, but as an ignoramus I would have guessed it was something like a wheel bearing.

(I’m 99% sure it is nothing to do with the power steering system. It doesn’t feel or sound like that)

From what you describe it sounds more like a wheel bearing or CV joint than the diff to me.

You could try putting it in neutral and let it coast. Without load on the CV joint the noise should change if it’s at fault. If it’s a bearing the noise will remain consistent. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Thanks for the replies. They make more sense to me than the diff.

Noise continues when I put the car in neutral and coast. Does this confirm it can't be the diff?
