New RRS Owner- Spare Key question

Just took delivery of my 11 RRS and am well chuffed , coming from a 12 year old X3 its a big change.
Hoping someone can help , My Spare Key although working seems a little erratic and I dont trust it .

What are my options as I dont want my wallet emptied so soon after buying the car? I'm thinking get a new key online and get someone local to pair it to car? Or should I invest in the GAP Tool and do it myself? Fairly technical and competent , looking online it seems straightforward.
What would I expect to pay if someone did it for me ? I am in Surrey/ Greater London .

Thanks
Jason

Welcome to the fold!

If you look in the "for sale" section there is a member who offers to replace either the 3 button or 5 button fob with new case and also supports this site financially.

Often it is just the shell of the case that wears over time and cause problems.

If the electronics are ok, he just swaps it and the key blade into a new case and offers a next day postal service.

If the electronics are knackered then I would guess your best bet is a new fob and re-use the old key blade and get it paired to the car.

I would recommend investing in the Gap IID tool as it's really useful and if you plan on keeping the car could save you loads of money compared to having faults read/cleared/fixed at your dealer.

Alternatively, you're welcome to borrow my Gap IID tool for a morning/afternoon but you would have to buy a licence for your car from GAP for about £30.

Hope that helps and let us know which route you go down. 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue
2005 4.2L Supercharged Java Black - gone but was my first love.

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

Maybe the battery is just on its way out? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks Scrumpy for the offer , Aim on keeping the car for a while so may as well invest in one - I can sort my own key out then Smile

Its 100% the Electronics as I have had it stripped to replace the microswitches on 2 buttons and the key still acts the same before and after the fix - Its the transponder part thats intermittent even with a new battery.

The Gap tool seems like a good investment
