I have no fuel - apparently!

Hi all, (RRS 3.6 V8 HSE)

On my way to work last night - the fuel low level warning come on and the digi fuel gauge read empty! (put half a tank in 30 minutes previously) The 'miles to empty' gauge also showed up as 3 dashes instead of any figures.

Is there a fuse I could check or something I could reset?

Many thanks,

There were problems with senders in the fuel tanks in some cars so it could be the sender. Which year is the car - from the photo I can see it is after 2010 facelift but which model year? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Ummm, I have reset the ECU. The fuel gauge worked for a few minutes then went back to empty. Is this a classic sign of a sender fault? I would have thought if it was the sender it would either work or not!

If you look in My Gallery for file No. 37, you will find a PDF file which can be downloaded if you wish, which may help with your problem as it is a known issue.

Cheers
Col

Had the same fault about 6 months ago (2011 RRS). Got the same link from Col and forwarded it to our local Indie. Tank was dropped & sender unit connectors changed. Worked correctly since. Think I was charged about £80.

Thank you Col and fdhadi. Very helpful. I'm of to my local garage this morning to see what he says. I shall go armed with this info.

I had my fuel tank sender wiring modified by the dealers under extended warranty as it was a known issue.
Mines a 2010 TDV6 3.0 I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.
