Still won't warm up

Hi all well I'm at my wits end now with my
2.7 sport replaced rebuilt engine
Back in but got coolant problem
Won't stay warm centre of temp gauge
So when I drive it down a dual carriageway
I get temp gauge up to normal position halfway
Slowdown in traffic drops to just above cold
Heaters adjust with coolant heat in car hot
Then tepid orderd new stat rad cap and temp sensor
Fitted all took it out exactly the same
Not overheated at all
Took stat out as it states for vehicle with
Diesel particulate filter I'm sure mine hasn't got that
So probably fitted wrong stat
I put old stat back in
So I've either got 2 stats that are faulty
Or something else is wrong
After I get back from a good 15
20 mile journey I can open bonnet and undo rad cap
No pressure at all
I've just seen a tiny trickle of coolant
Comeing from bleed screw on expansion tank ????
Please any help would be appreciated
I'm now questioning myself if I've put coolant hose from f b heater
In correct place can't think straight No friends no favours

Picking out one bit of your symptoms list this sounds really strange, and thinking allowed.....

As I understand it, when you stop a car the reason you have to leave it before undoing the rad cap is the engine is still hot but as water is not circulating the water in contact with the block will effectively boil and create pressure which will force hotwater out through the cap if the pressure is released this way by undoing. So as there is no pressure under your cap the water temp has not reach 100C even when you’ve turned off the engine. So it is running too cold. Reasons why? Thermostat always fully open? This should regulate temperature to a preprogrammed setting and if not closing it does not allow the engine to reach that temp. Presumably the RRS thermostat is the same old fashioned ones involving wax contained within a chamber and when it gets hot the wax expands and forces the thermostat open. So first question; is it closed before you fit it? And question 2; does it open if you put it in a saucepan of boiling water? Don’t do this if it’s not an old fashioned mechanical one as described above.

Alternatively is the cooling fan working too well?

You probably know and have thought this through already but just my musings on your problem for what they’re worth.

Also have you considered temporarily blanking off the radiator with a bit of cardboard just to see if you can get it to run hotter at lower driving speeds? Robin

It still sounds as though the stat is partially open don't think there are to many other options left if you can get hold of an infa red heat gun and measure the hoses either side of the stat you will see what difference in temp's you have before and after the stat at any given time i think thats your next port of call Thumbs Up

Firstly thankyou for the replies much appreciat
Some very good points
Due to getting home lateish this week
Each nite I am leaving sport alone
Until weekend then I'm doing another
Drain down swap stat again Refill and vent
Hopefully this time she will run properly
And how she should
If problem continues then like you both say
Infer red gun
Blank off rad
Etc until I finally find the cause of problem
Like to say thanks once again
Horrible when you can't pinpoint it
But real good when you can 👍 No friends no favours
