RRS ride quality comparison.

RRS 05-09 vs facelift 2010 TDV8.

I wondered if anyone on here had any thoughts to offer on the ride comparison between the original Range Rover Sport TDV8 (09) and the face lifted version from 2010?

Despite going over to 275/45 r20 tyres, I still find the ride too hard and harsh and wondered if anyone had traded up to the later version of the same car. I may be wrong but I think it has adaptive suspension and was curious to know if it softened the ride at all?

I've tried 19" wheels on a previous Sport (First generation) and wasn't overly impressed either.

Thanks Smile

I found lowering the (rear) tyre pressures made a massive difference.

22" tyres

Thanks Andy. I'm running mine at 32 psi all 'round at the moment and you're right, lowering the rear pressures help a lot.

Good tip! I’m on 20” and I also find it a bit stiff and I’ve got 33psi at the front and 36psi at the rear. Will try that tomorrow. Unless anybody here thinks it is a bad idea? 2008 Range Rover Sport 2.7 SE Zermatt Silver.

I had an 09 and then a 13 plate RRS1. I found ride quality very good in both, probably slightly better in the later model. I ran both cars on 275/40/R20 except a few winter months when I put 19” wheels on the 09. Tyre pressures were whatever LR recommends for that model (front and rear are different). In the facelift model, dynamic mode made the ride a little harsh but that was expected.

I would get the suspension checked out if you feel the ride isn’t great. There are quite a few things that can go wrong there. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I think there are about 4 pressure options on the label inside the door.

Pick one with low pressures.

I've totally rebuilt the suspension with all new shock absorber and air bag assemblies as well as ride height sensors, ace bars and compressor! Its as near new handling as its ever been after the previous owners neglected it.

Is the dynamic mode something that can be switched off?

Thanks

Then very strange that you are experiencing a harsh ride with a new suspension. I can’t point my finger at anything else but then I’m no expert.

Yours is a 2010 so won’t have the dynamic mode. It came in from MY12 onwards. I just mentioned it as one of the things that makes the ride a little uncomfortable due to stiffening of suspension. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I run 255/55/19, no issues here at standard pressures of 36R/33F, but at towing pressures of 42R/38F it is a little harsh so I drop the back down as soon as my heavy load is finished with Thumbs Up 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black

"Yours is a 2010 so won’t have the dynamic mode. It came in from MY12 onwards."

In Australia the Dynamic program (as part of the Adaptive Dynamics package) was available on the 2010 TDV8 as an option (AU$2,240) or standard in the Executive model of the TDV8.

I have a 2010 tdv6 and it has the dynamic mode with adaptive dampers.
And yes the ride quality is quite harsh compared to my 2006 tdv6 with no dynamic . I am also running 45 profile tyres , my suspension goes up and down fine and if you you do a bounce test everything feels nice and compliant so it should ride well but on the road , but when you drive particularly the rear will feel very hard or tight and and is not that comfy in the back .

Not “dynamic response” but “dynamic mode” that can be switched on and off using a button next to the terrain response dial? Surprised this was available in pre MY12 cars. Always thought it came in from MY12 Confused Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Thumbs Up I must be confused that it was introduced at the same time as the 8 speed gearbox and SDV6 (as opposed to TDV6) engine. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I think I might have to go back to 19" rims but shame there are only two styles that fit over the calipers....

At least the spare will then correctly match for size Smile

Thanks
