Gear selector surround removal

RRS 2010, face-lift, I need to remove the gear selector surround to access the EPB release (I have asked on my EPB fault code thread and despite a couple of replies, can't work it out so thought I would ask the specific question).
I have seen the Powerful Uk clip, but that refers to the pre face-lift model.
I can remove the selector knob and release the side clips, but the front edge seems locked solid somehow and I don't want to force and break it. It doesn't want to slide back, and any upward force is transferred to the panel in front of it which begins to bend.
If anyone has removed it, please can you let me know how I can get if off. The car sat on the drive with a jammed on EPB.

On the early version the tiny panel infront if the epb switch comes out.

The bit where u put your fingers to pull the switch up.

There is a little indent where a blade will go to release.

How they expect you to grab the cable I don't know. A wheel brace!
Anyway it's a start.

Hi Andy,
Iv'e tried that, removed the chrome effect trim round the gear lever which allows the plastic panel forward of the switch to be popped out and access to the 2 screws holding the switch in place. despite taking the screws out, I couldn't get the switch out, so no access to the wire pull. I can see it, just can't get to it.
That's why I think I need to take the panel (with hi-low switch etc on it) off.
Thanks anyway.

On a Facelift you can't get the surround off with out removing the complete console, as at the front edge you say is solid there is a screw retaining it which fitted from underneath.

Cheers

Thanks for that Col. What a surprise, an emergency release that requires half the car to be dismantled to get you off the side of the road! I'm glad I didn't force it now.
I considered a bent coat hanger, and I may have to resort to it, but it's not a straight pull up because I couldn't get the switch out, and by all accounts it needs a proper good pull which would just straighten the coat hanger wire.
So, may try backing off the brake shoe adjusters through the hole in the drum.
The frustrating thing is that I had the park brake cleaned and adjusted in January to avoid this issue.

Did I not read somewhere that you just remove the 2 cup holders (by pulling them up and out) and it’s under there. It’s designed to be readily accessible without tools. I.e. your stuck in town and need to release to get home. I’ll take a look in mine. 2012 5.0 SC AB

I had the same problem on my MY 2012 when the *****r ate both turbos and needed to free off epb to get recovered from roadside. All that was needed is per drawing above, take cup holders out and undo screw etc. Same route to put car into neutral. 5 min job tops.

Having read the other post it would appear your looking for a metal wire loop. I think the 2010> on model year now has a orange fabric lanyard attached to the black lock thing under the cup holder shown in the diagram above. 2012 5.0 SC AB

I really appreciate your input guys, and don't know what's going on with my car, but having removed the cupholders, there is a round cover about 1.3/4". I removed this but there was no view of the wire loop at all. certainly no sensible lanyard to help with pulling the wire. I wonder if realising it was a Censored design, LR changed it pretty quickly on later models so that the release wire could actually be accessed.
Edit; just noticed that the diagram is for the 8 speed gearbox introduced in 2012, so possibly LR changed it then.

Well.......I went to get photos of mine.......and guess what, there was nothing under the round cover on mine either. So we’re in the same boat except my EPB is not seized on and I probably won’t be using it now! 2012 5.0 SC AB

Just nipped out and took a couple of crap pictures,,, but it may help. Prise off the gaiter around the stick, 2 screws and the EPB switch will come out after you pull off the small cover panel in front of it. I can see mine right at the bottom, it's the small shiney bit but it looks as if it's doubled over,, remnant of whoever put it back together last time.

Much appreciated gogsy. I got as far as removing the screws on the switch but couldn't get it out. Does it lift straight up, or does it need wriggling back/forward?
I could see the loop with the switch in place deep in the console, but not enough access with it in situ.

Give it a jiggle,,, it may go forward a little before it comes up, I think it sits in a spigot of sorts. See if you can hook a bit strong line through the loop to pull on 2010 RRS, TDV8
