Wow, no other words for it. I was an audio technician many, many years ago, and this is far more in depth and technical compared to what we used to do. lol

Just a quick photo of the night time set up as I work on other things.

Geoffsnook: I'm pretty sure I'll get an image onto the 2010 screen from the Android head unit via the TV input, however, as the module uses the gear selector as a trigger (I think) Video-in-motion doesn't work without an extra pieve of kit from the likes of Nav.tv... So not sure where to go from here.

Cheers

Geoffsnook,

I hear you. I'm still trying to find a suitable connector that I can wire up to the video out of the HU. Once I have that I'll give it a try.

On another note. I wasn't happy with the lag/ speed of the HU and determined this was because I was running too many Apps to get the desired effect on the home screen. To give you an idea of what was runningto getthe effect here's an incomplete list:

Total Launcher
Five Wallpapers App for Live wallpapers
GPS Tracker
Wigdet for Facebook
Swipe for Facebook
Widget for Gmail
Glass Widgets for Google News
Widget for GCal
Drivers Widget PRO
Kustom Widget Maker
Unibiquity Music Widget
Transparent Weather Widget
Tasker + Secure Settings Plugin
Etc....

All this plus the background apps etc killed the speed. Using various diagnostics I found that I had up to 20 Shocked NON System apps running in the fore- or back- ground at any one time. This kind of explains the slow speed etc.

So I decided to slim this down to 2 Apps:

Nova Launcher Prime and
KLWP Pro - Kustom Live Wallpaper

Basically, Nova launcher runs the home screen actions but everything else now runs through KLWP. The Result is awesome Very Happy

What you see here is the main "Home" screen. All the " App Icons" you see to the right of the screen will disappear once completed, as will the "dock" which can be hidden/ revealed via a swipe up action. I'm undecided as to whether I keep the "Notification Bar" at the top or not, but I'm tending to do the same as the Dock and use a toggle to hide/ unhide it.

Everything else runs through KLWP.

So the address/ location and speed are updated on a 1-10 sec basis.

Music is updated dependent on the App (PlayerPro or TuneIn Pro) and are updated instantaneously when the music changes. This means if I change Apps or Albums or even songs. On the Media screen the Album image changes with the song/ station being played and there's a Progress Bar for individual songs. The only EXCEPTION the built in FM radio. This doesn't work currently, and I dounbt it ever will Sad But you can't have everything

Calendar, news feed weather update every 30 mins.

It's still work in progress but ultimately should work a dream and make things more fluid.

So along the bottom you will see 5 icons. By pressing these you will 'jump' to the respective screen in the order as displayed.

I'm also playing with the idea to make the map on "screen 2" the background so it covers the whole screen, which would be Cool .

The background takes about 30 minutes to change so will play with different images, but, like this one as the orange accents work well with the car Cool

So what do you think? A useful evolution? Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Cheers Geoffsnook Thumbs Up

Here are some actual pics in the car and working.
Stationary:

Whilst Driving:

Basically everything works as planned, just needs tidying up from the programming side. It certainly seems to help with the processing speed. Now it to look into alternate default apps, but that isn't important right now.

Now this is done I'll work on the picture to the monitor we've talked about elsewhere.

Cheers

So a small update.

I've kind of got the steering wheel controls working, but, still need to get that polished off... It was delayed becasue I had to wait for the replacement unit as the original was actually broken. In lieu of 1GB RAM I only had 750-850MB available so the RAM module was broken. After several email they agreed to replace it and I also got an upgrade (at cost) of the RAM to 2GB.

So everything is buttery smooth now and whilst the main principle of the UI has remained unchanged, I have tweaked the screens for better functionality.

Here they are:

Information

Map

Main / HomeScren

Media Source

Apps

So the pictures aren't that clear so here's a better picture of what I see, expected with direct sunlight the screen is crystal clear:

And yes that's my Sport in Wadi Al Khoud Very Happy

So what do you reckon? Should I just finish up the frame and leave it there, oooor should I sell this and see if i can get a 10.5" Android screen to fit???

Cheers

So this build it almost done.

Another small upgrade to the GUI. Basically I've added shortcuts for key Apps (Waze, Phone, Radio, Etc) in the nav bar at the bottom. This means I can access the important stuff directly without having to go through menus, at least if I'm not in an App, there it doesn't work unfortunately.

Also got the frame finished, to say I'm happy is an understatement. The finish is truly OEM and matches perfectly with the Piano Black parts already installed. I've added a matt screen protector to cut down glare.

Here's one photo:

So really this is now finished.. well apart from adding the front facing camera that will be mounted in the grille. Also need to replace the noble chrome surround to the stereo as one of them is busted and doesn't locate very well. I've already got the RSE working.

Also working now are the panel lights, which are now back lit in green to match the remaining lights. I did think about converting all the interior lights from green to white but it's a big task and I don'think it's worth it now that I've lost the main culprit in the stereo.

The rest of my time will be dedicated to 'restoring' the interior as some of the leather needs attention as does the plastic etc. to try and bring it up to the same standard as the exterior.

If there's interest I could be persuaded to do a write up, but this will take time and only if people are interested. Otherwise just ask specific questions.

So final thoughts??

Cheers

Thanks Guys Thumbs Up

DEVON - I'll try and put something together for you. May not have many pictures but should give you an idea of whats involved.

Cymruambyth - I think that's the plan, at least while I'm still in the Middle East. And if I do sell the car I will return the stereo to stock and sell the Android head unit, but, not anytime soon.

david007 - Thanks, not sure if it's talent or bloody mindedness Twisted Evil either way it's paid off and I now have a unique RRS which is up to date on the infotainment side. TBH honest whilst I had the ideas and planned it, apart from the actual touch interface design, my garage executed my ideas to a tee.

Here's a couple more photos.

Panel buttons working in green:

The overall look:

Closeup of the final interface with the short cut buttons to the left and right of the main "screen" buttons

and a short video of the initial boot sequence
"coming soon...."
