RRS 2016 Question Re:AdBlue AND service intervals

Hi all

I hope I have entered this in the correct place because I noticed that there wasn’t an option to choose the year 2016 when I created my profile today.

So, in September 2017 I paid £56,000 for A RRS , 2016 Reg.

Today (5 months later) a light has come on the dashboard saying I need to fill the Diesel engine fluid. So, I looked on YouTube and discovered that this stuff is AdBlue. Question 1: Is this the stuff you see for sale on petrol forecourts all over the UK or do I have to buy the Range Rover special AdBlue and if it is the stuff I can buy at the petrol station can I fill it myself?

Then, now the service light has come on so I rang a RR dealer who asked me my mileage to which I told him 22,000. The service guy then told me “Your Car is not due a service. It is every 24 months or 32,000 miles”. So I accepted that and rang the exact dealership I purchased my RR from 5 months ago. I told them “My service light has come on but my car isn’t 2 years old and it has only done 22,000 miles”. The lady then told me “Yes. On RR Sport service schedules are annually”. So, 2 different stories from 2 different dealerships. Both main dealers by the way. So, question 2.. who is right? What is the service interval for my car please?

Thanks all.

I’m sure the sport is yearly for service & the Disco sport is 2 yearly. Also find out if it has the service plan,if it has adblue is free of charge from main dealer.

Hi mate

Thanks for your rapid response. So I guess the answer is that on the Range Rover Sport the service interval is 12 months. So with regard to the Diesel Fluid can I just pick some AdBlue up from the Petrol station and fill it myself?

Not sure about which adblue you can use,,I wouldn’t think it will hurt to put the stuff in from local garage/motor factors but I would find out before putting it in,,the dealer will probably say you need to use theirs so they can charge top dollar like always.Im sure someone will be along soon who’s running one with adblue to put you straight.

Hi,
yes it is and yes you can
as said have a look at the manual, think it shows where Thumbs Up

its 16k OR 12 months which ever comes first so you are due the 32k

BUT

I would be going back to the supplying dealer Censored a main dealer should have topped up the DEF before sale or have you done the 22k miles Question you may have an issue (warranty) if you have not done the miles
did you check when the next service was due when you bought it, if it was six months since last service when you bought it six months ago they would not have automatically done a service, it is down to you if service now due
but they should have done the DEF

I was surprised to find an AdBlue pump at a local service station the other day.

Do recent RRS refuse to start when the tank is empty?

Yes, they refuse to start when empty.

Topix will tell you last service. You need one every 12 months or 16k miles, whichever is first. Adblue can run out after 6k miles. If you have the service plan, it comes with free Adblue topups. Petrol forecourt stuff is also fine - ones that take HGVs will have it on pump too. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

You should have the service history when you bought, so I’d ask the supplying dealer. But it will depend on mileage as well as age. Mine has has just come up for a service at 17k. Word of warning - my local LR dealer has a month delay on services with a courtesy car!!

Adblue is just adblue, you can use the garage stuff. Filler is under the bonnet on above the nearside wing.
