Advice on cold start problem 2006 RRS 2.7

Hi folks, I think the time has come for a new battery as when I first start it in the morning it fires up and cuts straight out, next time it will start but requires a light press of the throttle. But the more pressing issue is when it does start I'm greeted by a big plume of blue smoke, this only happens on the first cold start of the day, never any other times.
I have had the egr valve blanked,
Could this be in any way due to the low battery or possibly a much bigger problem?
It's a 2006 RRS 2.7tdv6

Sounds like glow plugs mate as myn does it. Your best getting a fbh kit as the glow plugs are a nightmare to get out if they do

My car did exactly that, fire and stall. You can try 3 or 4 full cycles of the glow plugs before turning the key see if that helps. Wait for the light to go and repeat. My problem persisted and indy suggested fbh over glow plugs. Not a problem starting since. Just have to remember to warm the car 20mins before, yes it working round a fault but for the odd days we get cold snap I am happy.

No idea if the 2.7 is the same Adam, but with a TDV8, cycling the ignition is a pointless exercise. The glowplugs stay energized despite the light going out on the dash and remain on for a time even after the car has started.
The light on the dash is only an indication it’s ok to start the car but doesn’t mean the glowplugs have switched off at the same time the light goes out. Thumbs Up Whilst we have these very cold mornings, I’ve been counting to 5 after the light goes out before firing it up, all in the name of mechanical sympathy Very Happy

Hi,
get the heater plugs tested to see if/how many you need and a quote for changing them,
IF they break they can still be removed with out taking the head off, but depends if they have the tools and which one it is/position ISTR

As for FBH try the search button and wiki info when you have a few days doing nothing to have a read up Laughing

get the battery tested and if its on the way out get it changed, keep delaying it and managing your RRS will not appreciate and you may end up replacing the alternator as well
If its how you use the car get a charger for it plug in or solar search "Tim Solar"

and timed climate or a remote is great Thumbs Up you will read about them under the FBH Whistle

Thumbs Up Porsche Cayenne 2022
gone Porsche Cayenne 2020
gone Corris Grey HSE Dynamic 2016
gone Ipanema HSE lux 2010
gone Rimini HSE 2005
!!

Thanks for that informative reply. I have a few days off so will read up on fbh thanks.
Also just going to bite the bullet and order a battery and glow plugs.
My mechanic can fit them as soon as they arrive, and I will dig out my trickle charger for these cold months

"FBH" is the fuel burning heater that helps the engine warm up in cold weather. It can be made to turn on early and start warming the coolant. This helps with cold starting as it warms the engine slightly.

Have the battery checked and have the alternator output checked too. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
