Ive never been one to care about mpg, if it needs fuel i just shovel it in! Having lived and still owning a 5.0 V8 M5 from nearly new and piling starship miles on it i know all about spending time in the fuel station Laughing 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black

I would say on average running a S/C would double you annual fuel bill, weigh that up against the possibility of a 18k bill if the 3.0 goes pop and not covered under warranty. So if average annual fuel was 3K it becomes 6k divide 18k by 3 (as you are already paying 3) = 6 so you get 6 years fuel at no extra cost. Easy to convince your self you want one. Not just potential crankshaft failures, generally speaking, petrol engines are often more reliable than modern emission complying diesels, especially over low annual mileage.
If I wasn’t pulling a 2 tonne caravan every few weeks, a petrol RRS would be outside on the drive. Modern diesels are complicated beasts with lots that can and often do, go wrong.
Certainly, if I was looking for a weekend ‘toy’, an SC would be very attractive.

Go for it Rob, what have you got to lose? It’s depreciation at the age it’s at would be minimal anyway, so down the line, you’ll always get a good return if deciding it’s not for you.

Mine's also a 2005 SC and has the second yellow capped bottle but looking at the build sheet I think it's for Active Cornering Enhancement (ACE) or Stability Control System.
I do have a button for DSC on the dash so assume it's the same thing but I don't think all models had DSC as standard. 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

All RRS have DSC, like all cars built since about 2000 - it is the control that kills the engine if the ECU thinks you are trying to crash the car - there is a switch because in some conditions (off road or in deep snow) when you have to disable it. It is called different things by different car makers and it is legally required and required to be working. It can be over sensitive in some cars but LR seems to have got that bit right!
The S/C has always had a Dynamic Response system since launch BUT it isn’t the same as the system fitted to L494. The system on L320’s only keeps the car flat in high speed corners and offroad can hyper-extend a wheel to get grip when the others have lost it - ie they have the electro-hydraulically disengaging anti-roll bars that allow a bit more wheel articulation over the no DR cars. DR was optional on the 2.7 TDv6 HSE and SE at extra cost and on 2005 and 2006MY’s allowed the cars to run with 20” wheels without fear of damaging the steering rack which was an issue with non-DR equipped cars and was an immediate warranty killer in 2005 if you fitted bigger than 19” wheels to your car, after 2007 all RRS came with the uprated steering rack and there was no issue with fitting up to 20” wheels. ACE is part of the DR set up. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I test drove a 2.7 without the active anti roll bars and a 3.6 with active anti roll bars, back to back. Handling was far better on the 3.6, I probably wouldn't buy a sport without them. Reading the owners book, I'm sure it said pushing the dsc button disables the active bars but leaves traction control active, and there's no way to disable it.
