England 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black
Engine fault TDV8 2007

Driving at around 40mph had engine fault pop up and it went in to limp mode
Turned it off and back on all ok carried on home as normal
Never had time to look at it ( happened Saturday )

Sunday morning get on motorway 6 miles of driving and the same thing happened
Turned off and on did 70 miles round trip all went well (and is still going ok but only do 8 miles a day to work )
Then got the codes up when I got home
Other than a split pipe (Pete from bell autos told me to look there first )
Any other bits I need to look into

could it be turbo actuator? Thought i read they can give bother, as in sticking/faulty.

I was getting a sticking actuator drivers side (the small turbo ) but drowned that in oil and it’s been ok for 6 months
It only happened if car was hot and restarted after 10 min if cold it was ok normal 61 AB 5.0 supercharged rocket

56 HSE WAS FULL OF PROBLEMS

On a TDV8 the turbos are the same size on each side, each runs a single bank although there is a link between the intake manifolds to allow for balancing. The driver's side one seems to be the more problematic, presumably because the crankcase breather system vents its gases in to the RHS turbo intake pipe. Also, the RHS turbo has a few more bits around it (starter, steering column) so presumably has slightly less cooling air flow. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Serviced today and found the split pipe happy days 42£ and it’s fixed for now 61 AB 5.0 supercharged rocket
07 HSE TDV8 with lots of toys EGR removed BAS remap
56 HSE WAS FULL OF PROBLEMS

Was it one of the top hoses that look relatively easy to change? I’m tempted to replace both of mine before they decide to fail on me. Call it preventative maintenance, for the sake of £50 or so quid it’s worth it to eliminate a potential inconvenience.

The top hoses are a 5 minute job and well worth doing if yours are several years old. They seem to fail out of the blue. My TDV8 split a hose on the commute home one Friday evening. Suddenly noted a slight drop in "go" and much clouding of the rear view. Easy to source and replace. Worth doing on yours, I'm sure. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I bought a set of Silicone Hoses from here (towards bottom of page), never actually got around to fitting them though, but quality certainly looked o.k. I think they were around £100.00 for set of six hoses but did included full set of stainless steel clips.

Have ordered genuine parts. There are plenty of aftermarket hoses available that save about £20 but I don’t trust Sh*tpart products. Buy cheap buy twice as someone once told me.

Hoses arrived today and fitted, just in time as it turns out. Evidence of a leak and signs the right hose was about to go pop. Now I’ve compared to the new pipes, I can clearly see why these would fail. The rubber on the old pipes very brittle and hard and as one end is fixed to the intercooler and the other on the engine, movement of the engine under load on its mounts would eventually cause the pipes to break.
Another job ticked off, £65 well spent Smile may do the ones down by the turbos next

New hoses are soft and squidgy Eaters, if the ones on your car feel very hard when you squeeze them ( Embarassed ) then they’ll probably be old.
Genuine replacements come with new clips already attached on the ends. When I removed the right hose (drivers side) it was dirt and oil soaked at the throttle body end, on the underside so I couldn’t see it from above when fitted. Cleaned it up and there it was, a small split. Probably saved myself a potential breakdown in the not to distant future Thumbs Up
